Hello everyone,

I recently bought the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe and would like to clean it gently without damaging the surface. The carcass has a matte finish, and I am unsure which cleaning products and methods are truly suitable.

My question is: How can I clean IKEA Brimnes furniture, especially the wardrobe, so that the surface is clean without causing scratches, dull spots, or other surface damage?

I am particularly interested in advice on suitable cleaners (e.g., mild, pH-neutral), the application method (towel, sponge, microfiber cloth), and also recommendations on which products or methods should definitely be avoided.

I would appreciate any specific recommendations, as I want to keep the furniture looking perfect for as long as possible.

Hello,

it is best to use a damp microfiber cloth with clean water. Do not use harsh cleaners or abrasive materials, as they can damage the surface. Afterwards, dry the cabinet with a soft cloth.

For surface cleaning of the IKEA Brimnes cabinet, it is recommended to use a mild, pH-neutral cleaner, ideally free of solvents or harsh detergents. Please note:

- Use only soft, non-abrasive cloths (e.g., microfiber cloths).
- Slightly dampen the cloth to prevent moisture from penetrating joints or edges.
- Gently remove any coarse dirt beforehand with a dry cloth.
- Avoid aggressive scouring agents, alcohol, spirits, ammonia, or bleach, as these can damage the matte finish.

This method significantly reduces the risk of dull spots or scratches and helps preserve the surface over time.

I can only agree with this. I once accidentally used a cleaning product that was too strong – and afterwards, the surface really looked damaged. Since then, I have only used mild dish soap with water and proceed very carefully. It also feels better to treat the furniture gently to avoid any harm.

Sometimes it also makes sense to test a small, inconspicuous corner first before cleaning the entire surface. That way, you can be sure that nothing will happen.

Hello Taujonatha,

you have already addressed many important points. Additionally, I can say:

- A mild soapy solution is suitable for cleaning, for example, a few drops of liquid dish soap in warm water.
- Use a soft microfiber cloth that you wring out well so that only a small amount of moisture reaches the furniture.
- After cleaning, immediately wipe the surface with a dry, soft cloth to prevent water spots or swelling.
- For stubborn stains, use a small amount of baking powder mixed with water to make a paste. Apply this gently with a soft cloth, but only test it first on an inconspicuous area.
- Avoid using cleaning sponges with rough or abrasive surfaces at all costs.

Some time ago, I had similar concerns with Brimnes and was able to prevent damage using this method.

If you like, I can also write you a step-by-step guide.
