Hello everyone, I am planning to move soon and own several IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets that I want to transport as safely as possible. The challenge is that some of the cabinets are already assembled, and I can’t fully disassemble all of them because some have fixed drawers and doors. Therefore, I’m looking for practical, proven recommendations and tips on how to secure these Metod cabinets during the move so that neither the carcasses nor the fronts get damaged. Has anyone had experience with the best way to pack these cabinets or which tools or materials are suitable to prevent shifting or chipping during transport? I look forward to your advice!

You should empty the cabinets as much as possible and secure the doors and drawers with tape. Then wrap them with blankets or stretch film to prevent scratches. Always transport them standing upright, never lay them flat.

In such a case, it is advisable to secure the cabinets thoroughly first. This includes:
- Securing drawers and doors with painter’s tape or special furniture tape to prevent movement.
- Using sturdy blankets or foam padding to protect sensitive edges and fronts during transport.
- Edge or corner protectors can reduce the risk of scratches, especially on the edges.
- For transport, the weight should be evenly distributed, and the cabinets must be transported upright to avoid damage to the back panels and connecting elements.

This helps prevent common damage to Metod cabinets during a move.

I consider this rule very important but often underestimated. Sometimes people try to save space by laying furniture flat in the truck, which can cause unnoticed stresses that quickly lead to deformations, especially in Metod cabinets made of thin material.

In addition, I recommend not just securing the cabinets but strapping them down at several points so they can’t move even a millimeter during transport. This saves a lot of trouble afterward.

I fully agree with this. Even better than standard moving blankets are special furniture pads with anti-slip coating. Something else that helped me: additional protection of the back panels with particle boards in case pressure is applied to the back during loading.
