Hello everyone,

I am currently planning a new wardrobe and am particularly interested in the Ikea PAX system. In this context, I would like to find out whether there are currently any PAX models at Ikea that come with integrated lighting.

My specific question is: Are there Ikea PAX models with built-in lighting? If so, how are these lighting systems designed? Are they installed directly at the factory, meaning they come standard integrated into the wardrobe frame or doors, or are they more like optional add-on modules that need to be purchased and retrofitted separately? Also, what are the technical details – for example, the type of lighting (LED, halogen), power supply (wired, battery-operated), and control method (switch, sensor control)?

If anyone has personal experience with illuminated PAX wardrobe solutions from Ikea or can recommend alternative options related to PAX, I would greatly appreciate your input. Tips on the advantages and disadvantages of the different lighting options would be especially helpful.

Thank you very much in advance for your help!

Hello Anman,

regarding your question about PAX models with integrated lighting: to my knowledge, Ikea does not offer PAX wardrobes that come standard with built-in lighting. The PAX system is very modular and allows you to add lighting or accessories from Ikea’s range afterwards.

- Lighting is usually implemented with separately sold LED strips or spotlights that can be mounted inside on the side panels or shelves.
- These often require wiring and need a power outlet nearby.
- Operation is mostly via switches directly on the light or a standard wall switch.
- Some customers now also use battery-powered LED spots with motion sensors, which are also available from Ikea.

This means the lighting is not factory-installed but an optional add-on that must be actively selected and installed. If you are asking about lighting systems integrated directly into the wardrobe door or frame profile (i.e., invisible within the unit), Ikea currently does not offer this as far as I know.

I recommend checking Ikea’s website and customer service before purchase, as the range and accessories are continuously updated. Overall, there is nothing preventing you from enhancing PAX systems with appropriate lighting – but this is done independently and not as a standard option.

Hope this clarifies things a bit!

Exactly! But that’s not a problem at all – I upgraded my PAX wardrobe myself with Ikea LED strips, and it worked really well! Once installed, the lighting makes a great impression. There are so many cool ways to customize it.

- Cables can be easily hidden
- Installation is very DIY-friendly
- Energy-efficient LEDs that last a long time

I think it’s definitely worth the effort because it brings real mood lighting to the bedroom. Plus, you can adjust it however you like! So don’t hesitate to add lighting afterward! 🙂 Just give it a try, and you’ll be impressed!

Hey, this question has been on my mind too—I’ve been dreaming of a wardrobe with nice interior lighting for a while, but sometimes it feels a bit overwhelming. It’s good to read that, in principle, it’s possible to add lighting afterward.

The idea of building a wardrobe from scratch and then installing lighting later makes me a bit nervous, especially when it comes to wiring and possible installation details.

Maybe someone here can share tips on how to make this process less stressful and whether real electrical knowledge is needed? I’d prefer a solution that doesn’t require major modifications, since I’m not very handy.

It would be great if the community could offer some encouragement or share experiences to help me take the plunge.
