nadarioHello everyone, I am currently planning to equip my kitchen with Ikea Metod tall cabinets and am looking for ideas on how to use the storage space in these tall cabinets cleverly and functionally. Specifically, I’m interested in how to best divide the available space for bulky items like pots and pans as well as smaller kitchen utensils and supplies. It would be great if you could share your experiences or tips on additional elements such as pull-outs, inner drawers, shelf inserts, or other useful organizational aids. Any advice on common pitfalls or less obvious ways to optimize space is also welcome. How have you solved this? Are there any particular combinations that have proven especially effective with the tall cabinets?
Hello Nadario, I find your question very thorough and clearly formulated – especially when it comes to tall cabinets, planning is crucial. From my experience, it helps to organize the cabinets by functional areas: for example, a tall cabinet for pots and pans with sturdy drawers, preferably full width and depth. This way, you make full use of the larger storage space. In another tall cabinet, you can arrange smaller items like pantry goods or baking ingredients in several internal drawers. I recommend setting up the drawers not only at the front but also on the sides so that you can easily reach inside. Additionally, lighting the cabinets can greatly improve usability and clarity. It might also make sense to keep the interior layout flexible in case your needs change over time. Have you considered U-shaped drawers or internal drawers with divided compartment management? They offer very flexible organization but are rarely directly available from Ikea.

So far, what works well for me is organizing by categories—having one section specifically for pantry items, another for cookware, and placing frequently used things as low as possible. Sometimes I still feel overwhelmed when there are too many options. But every now and then, it helps to empty everything completely and reorganize so the storage doesn’t turn into a cluttered mess. Maybe this could help you establish a system and gradually improve it?

I can fully understand how challenging it can be to arrange tall cabinets optimally. That’s exactly what I experienced too! What helped me was not just relying on the cabinet structure but also using practical boxes and dividers inside. This way, you can flexibly decide how to use the space and keep everything organized. I also think it's important to store heavier items as low as possible, since that improves stability and makes them easier to reach. Especially with tall cabinets, it can feel a bit overwhelming because of the deep storage space. Have you tried buying shelves of different heights to, for example, store tall bottles or cans separately?
