Good morning everyone, I am currently facing the problem that the installation of the doors on my IKEA Platsa wardrobe just won’t work. The hinges cannot be properly attached, the doors hang crooked or don’t close properly. I have checked the instructions several times and am generally familiar with the assembly, but I am starting to get frustrated. Are there any special tips or common mistakes when assembling PLATSA doors that I should be aware of? Perhaps advice on door alignment or the correct handling of the hinges that goes beyond the IKEA instructions? Any tips would be very helpful, thank you in advance!

Sometimes I wonder if IKEA is trying to give a psychological test with their Platsa doors, given how confusing the assembly is. What I’m really skeptical about, though, is why there aren’t better, simpler hinges available. The standard rattling hinges from IKEA should be something you can install in 10 minutes. The special mechanism is so annoying that it feels like the manufacturer wants us to go crazy. Maybe it’s better to switch to other systems – by the way, are there alternatives that are much more stable and don’t require frustratingly studying the instructions? My theory: IKEA deliberately overcomplicates things.

Why aren’t there better, simpler hinges?IKEA uses modular systems for PLATSA cabinets, allowing maximum flexibility. The hinges are therefore intentionally more complex technically to enable a wide range of adjustments. This matches the demand for adaptability.
Additionally, the hinges used are considered durable when installed correctly. Other systems are often less flexible and result in compromises regarding installation options or later adjustments.
Your criticism is understandable, but the complexity is a deliberate design trade-off between flexibility and ease of assembly.
