Hello everyone, I am planning to disassemble my Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets in order to modify them and possibly reinstall them in a different location. Could someone please explain the best way to take them apart? It is important for me to know which tools are needed, how to safely remove the doors, drawers, and especially the wall mounts without causing damage. Are there any special procedures or particular points to watch out for to ensure everything can be reassembled securely later? Thanks in advance for any helpful tips and experiences!

For dismantling the Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets, I recommend the following procedure:

- First, remove the doors: Press the green-marked release levers on the hinges and take the door off.
- Then, pull out the drawers completely and release the side locks on the drawer slides, usually small levers pushed up or down.
- For the cabinet body, loosen the screws connecting the individual modules, typically Phillips screws on the sides.
- The wall attachment is done with brackets and screws, usually located at the top inside the cabinet sides and on the back panel; these must be carefully removed.

It is important to use a sturdy screwdriver or cordless drill with the appropriate bit and a strong lever to avoid damage. When removing modules fixed to the wall, make sure to have sufficient help, as the cabinets can be heavy.

Remove the door, pull out the drawers, loosen the screws on the sides, and unscrew the wall mountings. Tools: Phillips screwdriver, possibly a cordless drill. Done.

Could you explain more precisely what kind of brackets these are and how I can best locate them? Are these special metal brackets, or just simple mounts from the assembly kit? In case the wall attachment is not immediately visible, it would be helpful to know if Ikea uses any particular solutions here.

The wall mounts for Metod cabinet modules usually consist of galvanized steel brackets that are screwed flat onto the inside of the back panel. These brackets are fixed with two or more screws and serve to securely anchor the cabinet to the wall. They are typically installed so that they are hidden behind the upper cabinet sides or back panels, so you should slightly pull the modules forward and look behind the back panel door or the cabinet’s rear side.

If you have already fully assembled the cabinets, these brackets may sometimes be concealed by the countertop or ceiling, depending on the installation situation. It is important not to forcefully remove them but to systematically unscrew all visible screws. To locate them, it can help to feel behind the cabinet with your hand.

For safe disassembly: completely unscrew the screws on the brackets; otherwise, the cabinet may be damaged during removal.

Remove the doors, pull out the drawers, and loosen the screws on the sides. Locate the screws on the back panel or inside for the wall brackets. Carefully loosen everything and take off the modules. Tools: Phillips screwdriver bit, cordless drill if needed.
