Franklin7027 Oct 2022 19:34Hello everyone, I recently bought the Ikea Brimnes furniture piece and am now looking for an appropriate method to care for its surface. Since Ikea surfaces are often painted or laminated, I want to make sure I don’t use any harsh cleaning products or abrasive cloths that could damage the finish. My question is: How can I properly maintain the surface of the Ikea BRIMNES to keep its appearance for a long time while effectively removing light wear or minor dirt? Are there any special cleaning agents that are recommended, or particular methods that work better than others? I’m also interested in whether moisture can be an issue and how to best deal with it. Thanks for your advice!

flo-Theres27 Oct 2022 20:02I recommend using mild water-based cleaning products for the surface of Ikea BRIMNES furniture. Most surfaces are laminated, which can be sensitive to solvents. It’s best to use a soft, slightly damp microfiber cloth to clean the pieces. Avoid abrasive cleaners or rough sponges.
Moisture itself is not fundamentally problematic, but leaving wet cloths or water stains on the surface can damage the laminate or leave unsightly marks. Therefore, always dry the surface thoroughly after cleaning.
In addition, I would suggest applying furniture wax or cream every few weeks according to the care instructions to protect the surface and help maintain its appearance.

It is best to use a soft, slightly damp microfiber cloth to clean the furniture pieces. This is a key point to avoid damage to the foil surface of BRIMNES. Additionally, I recommend the following approach:
- Do not use alcohol-based or ammonia-based cleaning products, as they can make the surface dull and brittle.
- For stronger dirt, you can use a pH-neutral all-purpose cleaner at a very low concentration.
- Always dry the surface with a dry cloth after cleaning to prevent moisture spots.
In summary: mild cleaners, soft cloth, quick drying, no harsh or abrasive products. This way, the BRIMNES surface will stay in good condition for a long time.
I can only confirm the advice – a microfiber cloth is your best friend when dealing with Ikea BRIMNES!
What I can add: If you have a stubborn stain, try using a mild dish soap dissolved in warm water. Let it sit briefly, avoid scrubbing for too long, and then wipe carefully with clean water. This helps prevent damage to the surface laminate. And hey, don’t leave excessive moisture on the surfaces, or else mold in other parts of the house will be happier than you 😉
By the way, a small tip from me to keep the surface looking fresh over time: occasionally use a furniture polish that is silicone-free. This keeps the finish smooth and looking great even after months!

Do not use cleaning products containing alcohol or ammonia, as these can make the surface dull and brittle.I agree with this. Especially with laminated surfaces like those on BRIMNES, incorrect cleaning agents can cause microscopic cracks or discoloration. Using a soft cloth, pH-neutral products, and thorough drying are key.
Another helpful measure is regularly checking for scratches or scuffs. Early polishing or treating with appropriate furniture care products can prevent more serious damage.
Finally, it is also important to avoid direct sunlight, as it can cause the surface to fade over time.
