Hello,

We are having some difficulties with our current floor plan. The exterior walls of the shower bathroom are fixed, but everything else (including the window, the 11cm (4.3 inches) wall, and the door leading to the hallway) can be changed. The window currently faces north. To the east, the garage would be located about 1.3m (4 feet 3 inches) away.

The issue is that we would like to have a large door to the bathroom. The shower should be approximately 85cm by 85cm (33.5 inches by 33.5 inches) or slightly larger, with a glass door. At the moment, the area near the sink feels too small because of the large door.

I am open to any suggestions.

Best regards,
Robert

This is a small question without much context. Guest bathroom on the ground floor or regularly used bathroom – if it is only a guest bathroom, why do you need more space?

Why such a large door if you cannot move properly inside the bathroom and shower? (To put it bluntly: What use is it to a 178kg (393 lbs) person to get through the door if they cannot even use the toilet, let alone get into the shower? Let’s not even talk about wheelchair users.)

How narrow is the shower actually? Is it 85cm (33 inches) in the shell construction without plaster (so in the worst case 75cm (30 inches) after plaster and tiles), or 85cm (33 inches) final measurements? Complete room dimensions are also missing. What will happen to the exterior appearance if you change the window?

I find the size completely adequate and don’t think the space around the washbasin is too small. You enter, close the door, and then have enough room.

We chose a similar size for our guest toilet. However, people said it was too small there 😀 Since these sizes are considered good here and in other places, I think we will keep it as is.

I’m not sure how much can be changed.

Here’s how I would do it:
  • Shower tray with a corner opening into the room instead of towards the wall.
  • Move the window slightly downwards on the plan.
  • Toilet placed under the window.
  • Door moved slightly downwards on the plan and reverse the opening direction (swinging down towards the "wall").
  • Towel radiator behind the door.
  • Sink either on the left wall above the door, or on the top wall next to the shower.

This is a case of causal connection: the original poster splits a question into several small threads, and the helpful users end up looking unnecessary confused.
Since the thread history search is currently inadequate, the original poster should please link their main thread here themselves – preferably directly in the post with the latest complete floor plans.

A 70cm (28 inch) door is oversized here. Why even have a shower in the guest toilet? – it’s better to guide the puddle-loving dog (I know the issue, a golden retriever mix feels like it has the wrong coat color and tries to fix that at every chance) through the side entrance past a spray hose in the utility room.

P.S.: A drainage channel that is already incorrectly positioned on the drawing will almost certainly be installed incorrectly as well, exactly following the flawed plans!
