zackaryf4126 Jul 2020 08:37Hello everyone, I am currently assembling my IKEA Metod kitchen and have a question specifically about the drawer slides with soft-close mechanism. My question is: How do I install the Metod drawers so that the soft-close function works correctly? I already have the IKEA instructions, but they don’t seem very detailed regarding the damping mechanism, especially when it comes to hooking in and fine-tuning the dampers. Does anyone know the exact steps, or perhaps any tips on what to watch out for to ensure the drawer not only operates smoothly but also closes softly and quietly? Are there common mistakes or tricks during assembly and installation? Thanks in advance for your help!
Hello, the dampers are simply hooked onto the rear part of the drawer and then secured onto the runners. It is important that the plastic components snap into place correctly. After that, push the drawer in completely and check by gently lifting it to ensure everything locks into position. That's basically it.
Hello @zackaryf41, I can provide you with a detailed guide. First, make sure all the components are correctly sorted, especially the soft-close full-extension drawer slides. The dampers are located at the rear end of the drawer rails. During assembly:
- Pull the drawer slides fully out.
- Attach the damper mechanism so that the damper clicks into the designated point on the rail.
- Then carefully insert the drawer into the rails; a slight forward pressure is important here until it is fully secured.
- Check that the drawer closes smoothly and automatically locks into place.
Common mistakes include incorrect attachment of the dampers or insufficient fastening of the rails to the drawers and carcass.
How far along are you with your assembly? Have you already mounted the carcasses?

The carcasses are finished, but I’m mainly struggling with fitting the soft-close drawer slide. Sometimes the mechanism seems to get stuck when I hang the drawer. Am I possibly doing something wrong positioning the slide before attaching the dampers?
I know the feeling when something doesn’t work right away; it can be really frustrating. In my case, the guide rails felt a bit stiffer because of the damper. I carefully aligned the rail, avoided applying too much pressure, and inserted the drawer at a slight angle. Patience really helps here—sometimes you need to ‘find’ the drawer’s position until it fits correctly. The rails should be parallel to the cabinet body; otherwise, you’ll get a sticking effect. Don’t worry, you can do it!
