ᐅ How do I attach Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets to concrete walls?

lekajonHello everyone,
I am currently planning my new kitchen with Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets and facing the challenge of securely mounting them to my concrete walls. The walls are solid concrete and load-bearing, but I am unsure about the best installation method and the appropriate materials to use.
I am particularly interested in which type of anchors and screws are suitable for the different elements (wall cabinets, shelves), how deep the anchor holes should be, and if there are any special tips for preparing the concrete wall (e.g., pre-drilling with a hammer drill, cleaning out dust). Additionally, it would be helpful to know if Metod cabinets can generally be mounted easily to concrete walls using Ikea’s original wall mounting system, or if alternative solutions are recommended.
I look forward to your experiences, tips, and recommendations. Thanks in advance!

Drill holes about 8 mm (0.3 inches), screws 6 mm (0.24 inches), at least 60 mm (2.4 inches) long. Drill first with a hammer drill and use a good vacuum cleaner to keep the hole clean.
You can use the original Ikea Metod fasteners as usual, just with suitable screws and anchors for concrete.

For securing Ikea Metod kitchen units to solid concrete walls, it is essential to choose the correct combination of wall plugs and screws.
It is recommended to use 8 mm (5/16 inch) hammer drill holes with high-quality nylon or metal heavy-duty anchors (e.g., Fischer type S or UX). The anchor length should be at least 60 mm (2 3/8 inches), and the screws ideally 6 mm (1/4 inch) in diameter to ensure secure load transfer.
Make sure to blow out or vacuum the drill hole thoroughly to maximize holding strength.
For the Metod wall cabinets, the supplied wall mounting brackets are compatible, but only suitable screws should be used. If higher loads are expected (for example, fully loaded tall cabinets), consider using metal heavy-duty anchors.
A tip: Before final fastening, check the unit with a spirit level and mark the fixing holes on the wall precisely.

For securely mounting Metod kitchen cabinets to concrete, I recommend the following procedure:
- Preparation: To avoid dust and drilling debris in the hole, first drill dry using a hammer drill, then thoroughly blow out or vacuum the hole.
- Anchor choice: For concrete, classic nylon heavy-duty anchors (Fischer S or UX) with a minimum length of 60 mm (2.4 inches) are recommended. Metal anchors are an alternative for very heavy loads.
- Screws: Use ISO 7380 hexagon socket screws, 6 mm (0.24 inches) in diameter, with a length chosen so that about 5 cm (2 inches) embed in the wall.
- Installation: The Ikea Metod mounting brackets are designed for timber stud walls but also fit concrete if the mounting bracket is securely screwed in place.
Common mistakes:
- Anchor hole too short
- Holes not properly blown out
- Using incorrect drill bits
For safe mounting, always use at least 2 fixing points per cabinet. Ensure a straight alignment to prevent future hinge problems with the doors.

The Ikea Metod fasteners are designed for timber stud walls but also fit on concrete,A note on that: Although the Metod mounting rail was primarily developed for timber frameworks, it does not always perform reliably when installed directly on concrete without additional measures. The hardness and low flexibility of concrete pose a risk that less elastic nylon anchors may loosen over time.
Metal expansion anchors can often be a safer alternative here, especially if you do not want to retrofit a substructure.
Additionally, the load from fully loaded kitchen cabinets should be realistically assessed. Just because the fasteners fit does not guarantee that the connection between concrete and furniture will remain stable for decades.
