I am considering purchasing several pieces of furniture from the Ikea Hemnes series, specifically a bed, chest of drawers, and nightstands. Since I value durability and quality, I would like to hear about your experiences with this series.
I am particularly interested in how the furniture has held up over time in terms of stability, material quality, and workmanship. Have screws or joints loosened? Are there issues with scratches or discoloration appearing after some time? What about maintenance—does cleaning and upkeep require a lot of effort?
If anyone has long-term experience with several Hemnes pieces, it would be great to hear about any differences or similarities you have noticed.
Thanks in advance for your insights and advice!

Hello kenneth38,
I am really impressed with my Hemnes furniture, which I have been using for almost 5 years now! 😊 The quality surprised me, especially considering the price range.
A tip in advance: I have regularly treated all the wooden parts with some furniture oil, which keeps the surface fresh and protects it from scratches.
After 5 years, my dressers and bed still look great. Of course, there are some small marks here and there, but that’s normal for solid wood and actually adds character to the furniture. None of the screws have loosened, and the joints have remained very stable.
So, if you want something durable, attractive, and practical, in my opinion, Hemnes is a great choice! Don’t be put off by any assumptions about it being cheap quality!

I have also tried the Hemnes series, but I noticed that the painted surfaces are quite sensitive to liquids and heat. This can be an issue for bedroom furniture if, for example, a glass of water spills or a hot cup is set down.

Are there any problems with scratches or discoloration that appear after some time? After about 3 years, I noticed some discoloration on the dresser caused by direct sunlight; the wood lightened in one spot. But this is probably normal for solid wood.
I also recommend tightening the connecting fittings very carefully during assembly. Poor assembly can lead to premature instability, which is a common criticism of Hemnes.
How about others: what is the stability like after several years? Any new insights?
Hi everyone,
I really like Hemnes, honestly – for me, it’s the perfect balance of Scandinavian style and cozy warmth. 🛏️✨
I’ve had the large Hemnes bed and a dresser for four years now, and yes, there are a few small scratches, but who doesn’t have those from everyday life? 😉
What I really appreciate is that the furniture shows signs of use, but only those with character. I’ve gotten used to not being too fussy with my things, and somehow that makes the piece feel truly “lived in.”
Also – to be honest – assembling it wasn’t as bad as I expected. It’s more important to pay attention with the mattresses and slatted bed bases.
I can confirm that; prolonged exposure to sunlight will lighten the surfaces a bit. That’s why I positioned my Hemnes furniture so it doesn’t sit in direct sunlight.
So, if you want a straightforward yet attractive look with a certain durability, Hemnes is a good choice. So grab your tools and get started! 😄
