Hello everyone,

I recently purchased the Ikea Platsa system and have mainly encountered issues with the doors. Even with correct assembly, the doors often warp over time or no longer close flush, which then requires readjustment.

My question to the community is: How can I reliably avoid having to readjust Ikea PLATSA doors?

I am particularly interested in tips and tricks for proper installation, any necessary preparations, or preventive measures that can help keep the doors straight and functional for a long time. For example, what influence do the tools used or the hinge adjustment methods have?

I look forward to your experiences and advice!

Hello sanjasmi39,

Your question is very well put, and I can understand your situation since PLATSA doors can indeed be a bit tricky. To minimize the need for adjustments later on, proper installation and preparation are crucial. Here are a few points I would recommend paying close attention to:

- First, it is important to thoroughly check the walls and floor where the furniture will be placed. Even the smallest unevenness can cause the doors to hang crooked over time. I suggest leveling the PLATSA components with a spirit level and using shims or wedges if necessary.

- The hinges themselves have adjustment screws that allow for fine tuning. After the initial installation, I advise aligning the doors not just roughly but carefully to the nearest millimeter. Often, a slight tightening of the screws is enough to position the door perfectly.

- The tools used for installation also matter: a good Phillips screwdriver of the correct size prevents over-tightening the screws, which could cause the hinge to loosen.

- Another point is preload tension: after attaching the doors for the first time, you should open and close them several times to compensate for any settling or material flexibility before making the final adjustments.

- Finally, it is important to know that wood-based materials like those in PLATSA inevitably react to humidity. Maintaining as constant a room humidity and temperature as possible helps to prevent warping.

Could you possibly describe in more detail exactly how you went about the installation? That would help ensure whether there is a specific cause in your case.

That’s exactly the key point with PLATSA doors! A bit of feel with the screwdriver and patience while adjusting – and then everything runs smoothly. 😊

Also: definitely check the walls, as kulau mentions. If the floor is slightly uneven, even the best hinges won’t help. I placed small felt pads under the furniture to align everything just a little bit – that worked great.

One more thing: once the doors are installed and aligned properly, don’t tighten the screws too much. The furniture components need a little room to move; otherwise, they’ll be under stress, which leads to needing readjustments.

A quick tip – always work with both hands, not just the screwdriver. This gives you better control and prevents unnecessary stress on the materials.

To prevent repeated readjustments, precise preparation and installation are essential. The following points are crucial:

- Make sure the furniture is perfectly level. Using a spirit level is mandatory, including checking the floor for any unevenness.

- Hinges need to be adjusted after installation. The standard PLATSA hinges allow multi-axis adjustment. To reduce the need for later readjustments, it is advisable to adjust the screws with the correct tools and then secure them with a mild adhesive to prevent self-loosening.

- Use only the fastening hardware recommended by IKEA. Replacement parts should have the same specifications to avoid material stress.

- Avoid overtightening screws, as this weakens the material grip and can cause doors to shift more easily.

- In cases of high humidity or temperature fluctuations, using a dehumidifier can be beneficial. Wood-based materials react to such environmental factors and may change shape.

Recommendation: Check the door adjustment again about one week after installation, as the installation may settle slightly during initial use.

This ensures as durable a function as possible and protects the mechanical components.
