Hello everyone, I am the new member from Frankfurt Hausen.
My wife wants an "American-style refrigerator,"
and she will get one, but it requires a water connection.
Who has experience with this?
Can I use a copper pipe up to the water tap?
If yes, what diameter should it be?
Do I need to use sealing paste or hemp fiber for the seal?
Thanks 😎

Thanks for the answer.
And don’t you find refilling the tank tedious or annoying?
How often do you refill it?

I find this question... well, I’m not exactly sure how to describe it; in any case, it’s rather odd!

We have a Nivona® because we were frustrated—expensive frustration—with a Jura®. In summary, after two years of use: excellent coffee, just requires regular maintenance, BUT: you have to refill the small water tank at least twice a day and empty the drip tray (both were larger on the Jura). I’m happy to accept that because the Nivona® is really well made, and we’re no longer overpaying Jura®’s service fees.

My washing machine is in the basement, right next to the dryer. When the weather is nice, I walk about 25.00 meters (82 feet) to get to the clothesline—roughly the same distance as from here to our garden retreat.

The water tank of the espresso machine holds 3 liters (6.3 pints), is very easy to remove, and compared to our previous model, much easier to clean. Since I alone drink 3 liters (6.3 pints) of water per day—whenever we’re home—I have to fill the tank daily. The distance from the fridge to the sink is 2.00 meters (6.5 feet); so not too far. I’ve also never complained about having to get up to grab ice for my soda.

Should I really go on listing how much time I actually spend in the kitchen (when I find time to cook), or has someone rung the doorbell already?

If, like Nero of old, you want to be pampered with every convenience, you need lots of staff—or you have to get up and move. The good thing is: every trip keeps you fit; for desk workers, frequent diners, or those who drive a lot, it’s not the worst option.

Well said, SirSydom. The question with comfort is simply where to draw the line. After all, you do use the washing machine—perhaps scrubbing clothes on a washboard would keep you even fitter?

Well – I can understand the question to some extent. Especially if you’re still deciding between a water line or a tank.

Having a water line is definitely more convenient. Plus, the space the tank takes up (about half a cupboard) can be used for something else. Also, you don’t have to clean the tank. But for that, you either need to install an additional pipe through the kitchen or have another water connection set up (our water connection is for the sink and dishwasher).
(Could long pipes and possibly several weeks of vacation create a risk of Legionella bacteria? I don’t know – I heard something like that once.) It is recommended to let the standing water in pipes run out after a longer vacation.

Maybe if I had known the water dispenser would be used so intensively (before, I mainly drank sparkling water), I would have had a line installed from the start.

So if you are still about to make a decision, it’s worth considering the pros and cons. And who better to ask than someone who has already made the purchase?

I find this question ... I’m not quite sure how exactly; anyway, it’s a bit strange!

We have a Nivona®, since we were annoyed—expensively so—with Jura®. Conclusion after 2 years of use: very good coffee, just regular maintenance, BUT: you have to refill the small water tank at least twice a day and empty the drip tray (both larger on the Jura). I’m happy to accept that because the Nivona® is really well made, and we no longer waste money on Jura®’s service fees.

The water tank of the coffee machine holds 3 liters (3.2 quarts), is very easy to remove, and compared to our previous model, much easier to clean. Since I alone drink 3 liters (3.2 quarts) of water a day—when we’re home—I refill the tank every day. The distance from the fridge to the sink is 2.00 meters (6.5 feet); so not too far. No one has complained about having to get up for ice for their soda either.

Should I really start listing how much time I literally spend in the kitchen (when I find time to cook), or is that the doorbell?

If you keep going like this, I’ll soon be able to sketch your house from various threads.

I hope not; I know that can be a downside of too much exposure ... if I’m not careful. So far, I’ve only shared what I feel confident standing behind. That’s why, for example, there’s no photo of the fridge in its place.

The good thing about all this is that we are planning ‘back to the roots’; which also means moving again.

If you want to be spoiled like Nero was, with every convenience, you need a lot of staff or you’ll have to keep moving. The good thing is: every trip helps you stay slim; not a bad option for those who work at desks, eat at tables, or drive a lot.

Hello.

I don’t find the question that strange. Almost every question here revolves around the comfort of floor plans, fittings, building services, and so on.

We are also looking for an American-style refrigerator, so I would like to bring up this topic again. We are leaning towards a refrigerator with a water tank, but has anyone had experience with this? We would appreciate some feedback and model suggestions.
