ᐅ How wet can cavity insulation be during installation?

Since it is currently raining quite a bit, I am curious about how wet cavity insulation is allowed to get.

In many places (especially from manufacturers, but also elsewhere), you often read that cavity insulation no longer collapses or loses its insulating properties when wet, but rather that it is water-repellent and will dry out again.
Is that really the case?

Our insulation is well sealed and only got slightly wet at the edges, but it dried fairly quickly again.
Today, water dripped between the window insulation (PU foam, purple) and the masonry, even though the top of the PU was covered with a membrane—this time unfortunately the water came from above onto the insulation. I checked by touch and estimate that about 2cm (1 inch) of the insulation got wet. I then placed another membrane over it to prevent further dripping.

At many other construction sites I have observed, the insulation is covered, but never 100%—more like 98%—and I often notice some yellow areas still exposed.
Does anyone have experience with this? I feel like some people say "it doesn’t matter," while others say "everything has to be replaced."

Thanks and best regards

You won’t find 100% coverage on any construction site, not even where a tent is erected.

In principle, insulation should not get wet; but the last 2-3% won’t make a difference.

As the building expert already mentioned... It shouldn’t get wet, but staying 100% dry is also not possible...

So, if it gets wet, you hope that the water repellent was strong enough and that the edges will dry again?
