Hello,

do you have an access panel in the base of your tiled bathtub?

My husband and I are discussing whether it is necessary or useful.

I find the panel very unattractive, especially since the bathtub is tiled with a particularly beautiful wood-look tile.

Best regards

I think it makes sense. Because if the amateurs ever break, maintenance can be carried out through this access panel. You can place the tile right over the panel so that it is no longer visible. And if needed, you only have to renew the grout.

Yes, we have it, but it is practically invisible because it has been cleaned thoroughly.

No, the construction company doesn’t do that. Both the tiler and the plumber agreed that this is an old leftover practice from the past. Nowadays, they cut through the grout to remove a single tile. That was their unanimous statement.

In our old rental apartment, the "maintenance tile" was simply sealed with silicone. You could only see it up close, and the advantage is that it can be removed with a knife without making much mess.

It’s the same for us—unfortunately. Our bathtub got clogged once, and we were able to clear it from above using a lot of chemicals. With an access chamber (inspection chamber), we could have solved it more effectively.
