xycrazyHello everyone,
We are in the final stages of negotiations and have decided on a flat roof that will need to be extensively greened.
There isn’t much positive information about flat roofs, although most reports date back to the 1960s and 1970s. I assume this issue has largely been resolved by now.
Still, I’m curious if anyone here has built a flat roof or purchased a house with a flat roof and what your experiences have been. Would you choose it again? Any problems? How do you maintain the roof? And how is maintenance done on a green flat roof?
Thanks a lot!
Best regards

How is maintenance usually done on a green flat roof? I'm not an expert, but... An extensive green roof should be inspected once or twice a year. During this, you remove any unwanted plants and ensure that the drainage system is clear and functioning properly. That’s basically it.
Otherwise, I consider flat roofs to be no big issue nowadays if they are installed correctly. Even more so when they are green!

I’m not an expert either... but my gut feeling tells me that a flat roof will eventually develop leaks sooner or later.
