ᐅ Looking for ideas for a sloped building plot

Hello everyone,

We currently have the opportunity to purchase a sloped plot of land. The garden faces south, with the road located above the property to the north. Within a depth of 20 meters (65.6 feet), there is a 2-meter (6.6 feet) slope. The plot is 20 meters (65.6 feet) wide and approximately 50 meters (164 feet) deep.

I would like to gather some ideas online on how such a plot could be developed. I have already tried many search terms on Google, but mostly get images of houses located above the road (with an upward slope on the property).

My question is: what should I search for to find inspiration for the opposite situation? For our plot, a walk-out basement seems like a possible option, is that correct?

Maybe you can help me with some search keywords for Google. Before we commit to the purchase, I would like to get some ideas about what kind of development is feasible.

Personally, I could live with either option – both have their pros and cons.

Living on the ground floor:
Short distances to the house or the living area, kitchen, etc.
A nice balcony or even better, a beautiful roof terrace with direct access (stairs) to the garden. How is the view?
Bedrooms in the quiet basement with access to the garden (great for children who can go straight from their rooms outside to play, especially when friends are over).

Alternatively:
Living in the basement, but with an entrance on the ground floor. So, the cloakroom would be upstairs – downstairs can be designed to be open and spacious. Bedrooms would then also be upstairs on the ground floor.

So, I guess it depends on the surroundings. But I would choose access via the ground floor anyway, because shoveling snow or spreading grit on the stairs in winter, then going downstairs only to go back up inside the house – I wouldn’t like that.
Besides, constantly going up and down stairs outside with a child and all the gear (stroller, car seat, etc…?!)? No, that wouldn’t work for me.

Hello
From everything I can gather in your entire message, you are not satisfied with the plot of land.
If I were you, I would look for something else since it should fit your needs after all.
Are there no other plots available?

No, the development area will probably be the last one created in our town for the time being. Our goal is also to stay there; we do not want to move to the surrounding areas.

However, the ideas are still progressing. Yesterday, we visited our architect again. She presented the possibilities with a split-level design. This means you enter from the street and then go either 8 steps up or down. For now, our main concern was to understand what is possible with our plot of land. This serves as a basis for deciding whether to proceed with the purchase. Since we do not have to deal with a steep slope, it seems that this approach could achieve a nice result. After all, you have to go up or down stairs on a sloped site, whether on the uphill or downhill side.

I love split-level homes and look forward to seeing the design here.

Yes, I can gladly show it when we are ready. But right now, it’s still too early...

I’m also curious about what’s coming, really excited. And also about the comments once we review the plan in detail, but for now, we still need to find out the elevation level at which the road will be built. That is still completely unclear, and we can’t start getting specific yet. The same applies to a few other things. The finalized zoning plan is expected in June, but we have to go to the notary in April. Maybe I can postpone that to gain some time.
