ᐅ What features did you include in your house, and what did you decide to leave out?

Hello,
When planning and building a house, you focus on the essentials and the budget. Some wishes get dropped along the way. But certain small luxuries or nice features are important to you, even if they are not strictly necessary, and you end up including them anyway.
For us, a heated conservatory was an unattainable dream. However, we treated ourselves to tiled, walk-in showers, even though they take up more space.
I would love to hear what you have given up and what you managed to include.
Best regards

I also think the beechwood stairs are really nice, but my husband was the one who wanted them. I don’t really mind which wood is used, as long as it’s wood.
I believe I’ve heard that a concrete staircase is more affordable. However, I don’t want to commit to that for sure.

Sounds amazing, torsan! Lots of light, great view... what more could you want!

The stair builder then sold me one where the steps are mounted on rubber supports fixed to the wall. He said it would only be slightly more expensive. Our general contractor later expressed some doubt about that to me, but did not charge me extra for it.
I hadn’t thought of that yet... creaking steps
I can definitely see how rubber hooks could help reduce that noise. I’ll keep that in mind, thanks!

willWohnen2 Feb 2015 23:31@torsan Thanks for your contribution. I had to look up flat roof bay windows online first, that really is a great way to gain extra space. And you actually preferred a concrete rather than a wooden staircase? Why is that?
Oh, and the furniture isn't meant to be permanent anyway...

willWohnen2 Feb 2015 23:33@Bautraum2015 I believe that only works with open staircases without risers. But I assume you have one like that because you chose the wooden staircase for aesthetic reasons, and an open staircase looks even lighter and brighter, right..?
