ᐅ What features did you include in your house, and what did you decide to leave out?

Hello,

When planning and building a house, you focus on the essentials and the budget. Some wishes get dropped along the way. But certain small luxuries or nice features are important to you, even if they are not strictly necessary, and you end up including them anyway.

For us, a heated conservatory was an unattainable dream. However, we treated ourselves to tiled, walk-in showers, even though they take up more space.

I would love to hear what you have given up and what you managed to include.

Best regards

We also treated ourselves to a large 1x2m (3.3x6.6 ft) bathtub with a view of the greenery.

Without a bathtub, I can't imagine living.
A good book, a nice glass of red wine... That’s what relaxation looks like.
I have to admit... so far, I rarely shower at home. Mostly only outside after sports. I’m just more of a bather.

But that will probably change with the new, even bigger shower...

Everyone has their own preferences.

Good luck

It's great to be able to afford both a shower and a bathtub. It also has the advantage that they can be used at the same time.
At the moment, my husband and I live with a tiny bathroom where the washing machine and dryer are squeezed in. When I want to brush my hair and my husband is brushing his teeth, nothing else can happen... Oh yes, what we are allowing ourselves in the new house is a large bathroom!!!

We have planned an 11sqm (118 sq ft) bathroom upstairs and a 4sqm (43 sq ft) bathroom downstairs. With the T-shaped layout upstairs, we have a huge walk-in shower where we can all dance together under the rain shower with the kids. This is the kind of luxury we wanted. Of course, it features a water-saving rain shower.

@willWohnen: I know that too. We are currently living in the granny flat of the house we sold, and the bathroom is really tiny. There's a shower, sink, and toilet. It’s way too cramped for two people.

But: The main bathroom in the new house is nicely spacious, almost 15 m² (160 ft²). That will be our little oasis of calm.
The house just needs to be finished soon. Tomorrow the windows will be installed, two weeks behind schedule.

No, we now have a great walk-in shower that reaches the floor, but it is hardly used... My husband also retreats to the bathtub to read.

Yes, reading in the bathtub... For me, that is more relaxing than traveling somewhere, paying an entrance fee, dealing with changing cabins and lockers, and being loudly bubbled in a whirlpool there.
