Hello,
we are building a single-family house in the Swabian region.
Due to the location of the plot and the design of the house, we have decided to go with a carport.
The driveway is on the south side, and the main entrance is on the east side. This means the carport will be directly in front of the main entrance door and is also intended to serve as a covered entrance area.
Additionally, we want to integrate a small storage room of about 2.3m x 2m (7.5 ft x 6.5 ft) inside the carport to store bicycles and a lawnmower. Is that size sufficient?
The carport will have a length of 7.5m (25 ft) and a width of 3.5m (11.5 ft). Unfortunately, the plot does not allow for a larger size.
Could you please take a look at my plan and let me know if the design seems realistic or if there are any improvements you would suggest? Also, where should the entrance to the storage room be located: on the left side or from the front?
Thank you very much!

PS: Another option for the lawnmower could be an electric robotic mower. It usually parks itself at its charging station outdoors and "cries for help" if someone carries it off the property. However, these devices are not exactly cheap...That's actually my recommendation 😀
However, mine also parks itself safely inside the tool shed 🙂

Does it have its own key, or did you install a sort of pet door for it?

Does he have his own key, or did you install some kind of cat flap for him?He has his own opening. There is NOT yet any flap or similar installed. I am still considering what to do. Currently planning on a small electric roller shutter.D
Doc.Schnaggls20 Oct 2014 11:55OK, sounds interesting – do you want to connect this roller shutter to the control system of the robotic lawn mower, or simply operate it with a timer switch to open and close?

DerBjoern20 Oct 2014 11:59I would prefer to control this through the lawn mower robot’s system. However, I just received access to the relevant system settings from the manufacturer, and it seems like it will only be possible by tinkering. Unless I can manage something via the Bluetooth interface. I need to look into that once I’m done with my garden and the remaining work in the house, so I have more time for such DIY projects. The easiest solution will probably be to control everything using light barriers.

Doc.Schnaggls20 Oct 2014 12:06A photoelectric sensor is also a nice idea...
Does he then park far enough inside the tool shed from the entrance so that it is protected against external access?
The photoelectric sensor could also be triggered from outside by unauthorized persons...
