We are about to decide what type of flooring to install in the living room and children’s rooms, and with so many options available, we’ve become quite unsure. Right now, we have oiled cork flooring in a ship deck pattern in the children’s rooms, and we really like the comfort it provides. However, the kids no longer like the cork, and they want something different in the new house. But what?
What kind of flooring do you have in your living room and children’s rooms (bedrooms)? And why? Would you choose the same again? If yes – why? If not – why? We have a low-temperature underfloor heating system.

We also don’t want tiles or natural stone because we find them cold underfoot.
Yesterday, I received a PVC sample, and the new ones look really good! Whether it’s natural or not is of secondary importance to me personally.
I also like screed, but I have never tried it. Is it cold to the touch? It seems complicated to install!

I somehow don’t believe that an untreated mass-produced carpet is healthier in the mouth than vinyl. These things are all soaked with pesticides.
I come from a family with allergies and find it funny that carpet air is supposed to be better?! Most people have problems with dust mites, and they build amazing large cities in carpets.

The natural habitat for dust mites is the bed. In Germany, approximately 66% of all household dust mites were found there. Half of these were located in mattresses, with the remainder found in toppers, mattress covers, and blankets. Upholstered furniture ranks second, containing about 20% of the mites detected. Carpets contained around 4% of dust mites in bedrooms and about 10% in living rooms. Most of the mites found in carpets likely originated from mattresses and upholstered furniture and often die there. Therefore, the main contamination risk in homes comes primarily from mattresses and upholstered furniture, not from floor coverings.

I am considering using screed for part of the floors.
What should I pay attention to?
