Good evening,

Is it better to buy the heat pump and the central ventilation system from the same manufacturer, or is that not a good idea? Which manufacturers would you recommend? According to my research, Stiebel Eltron and Wolf are considered "good" manufacturers, or is there perhaps a "hidden gem"?

Well, this isn’t a simple topic to resolve 😕 Are Stiebel Eltron and Wolf "good" manufacturers for heat pumps and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery?
There are several reputable manufacturers. Which one is the right fit for your house depends on the house design and the installer handling the project. Of course, your preferences regarding smart home integration or other homeowner concerns also play a role. It’s great that you are looking into this topic. However, at this stage of the process, it is not yet relevant.

How can I recognize a good manufacturer? I am interested in heat pumps and controlled residential ventilation systems.

As a layperson, you only have indirect signs that you can evaluate yourself. There is no guaranteed method.
Certificates and consumer protection laws offer some level of protection against buying something terribly bad, but mostly it’s about distinguishing between "good" and "very good."
Customer reviews can be another indicator, although these publications are partly influenced by marketing management.
In the technical specifications, you will find efficiency values whose measurement conditions and relevance for actual operation you need to understand in order to compare them. Maximum values often don’t help much.
Another indicator is the extent to which a company develops and innovates on its own.
To reduce uncertainty, warranty promises provide some reassurance.

When I assess companies for myself, I am intentionally also guided by emotions. I like it when products have a good finish and when I can recognize a clear concept in their presentation that reflects the company philosophy. I get in touch, talk to a few people, and check how consistent they are with the company philosophy statements. If this seems coherent, I believe that good products are carefully built and the service will be accommodating.
A few years ago, I researched heat pumps and found Ochsner particularly interesting.

These are all well-known brand manufacturers. So far, I have worked with Waterkotte, Vallox, Panasonic, and Raumluftshop in actual installations. They were all "good." Some have advantages in their software (for example, Panasonic offers a very user-friendly interface, as it doesn’t have complicated menus), while some are slightly more efficient than others, and so on.
There are no bad actors among them. Besides these, there are smaller providers where you would need to do some research yourself (for example, in forums or similar sources).

Very informative post! Thank you for all the useful tips! I hadn’t heard of Ochsner before. I’ll check out what they have to offer.

Very helpful, I didn’t know many of these manufacturers until now. Thanks!!
