ᐅ Outdoor heat pump unit very noisy – possible solutions? Quiet mode? Effects?

Hello,
the outdoor unit of our Elco Aerotop Split 07 air-to-water heat pump is quite loud.
The outdoor unit is located very close to the neighbor’s property, and they have started to complain. I can understand this, as I also find the unit very noisy.
Other units in our new housing development are noticeably quieter.
Are there any ways to reduce the noise level of the outdoor unit? It would probably also help if the unit did not turn on as frequently.
I found one option in the manual:
Silent mode (if available): This function limits the performance of the heat pump system to reduce noise. WARNING: Activating this function limits the maximum output of your heat pump to about 70%, which may result in insufficient heating capacity.
What effects does this have? Does it increase energy consumption, or is this mode harmful to the system? Obviously, I want to avoid the latter. To compensate for the 30% reduction, I would probably need to adjust other settings? Which parameters would those be?

Is this thread still active -@Tx-25 We currently have no problems. The heating system has become quieter than at the beginning due to all the adjustments and has not been disturbing for us or the neighbor since then. We have not changed anything about the location or the conditions. The consumption has not changed significantly due to the adjustments.
Since the heating system is too large for our needs, it currently runs only from 4:30 AM to 4:30 PM. This is intended to reduce frequent cycling.
One question for the experts: The heating system also runs outside this time period when temperatures are cold. Can this be avoided? It still cycles frequently outside this timeframe. I can see this on my photovoltaic app. The consumption creates a clear zigzag pattern there.

hanghaus202316 Oct 2025 12:34What does the meter say about the cycles? The teeth in the photovoltaic app are called modulation. It doesn't necessarily have to be a cycle.

The 5,000 in the first 2.5 years was definitely too high. Congratulations on the successful improvements.
It is not surprising that energy consumption has not decreased noticeably if the heating demand has remained largely unchanged. The system is probably running somewhat more efficiently now since it doesn’t need to build up pressure as often. Much better is the extended lifetime forecast for the unit. The fact that everything has become quieter makes sense, as each compression cycle produces noise. Additionally, instead of running frequently at high speed, the system is likely operating longer at lower speed. Lower speed —> less noise.
