Hello experts,

maybe you can help me.

My incompetent tiler installed the tiles in our bathroom. My mother had purchased the above-mentioned Hansgrohe waste bin Xtrastoris. He was not supposed to install it yet because the electrician and plumber still needed access to the waste bin opening to run the electrical wiring and water pipes for the toilet. However, he installed it anyway because he wanted to get back at the electrician – since then, he has of course been unreachable.

Hansgrohe came by and said it was installed incorrectly. It seems he glued it firmly on the left and right sides with tile adhesive (I’m not sure about the back). The adhesive used was Sopro FKM 600.

How can we remove the waste bin without damaging the tiles? We have already tried various thin, long, sharp knives and saws, but nothing worked. It has to come out somehow.

Best regards,
Knut

But if the saw blade is round, I can’t really get into the joint properly. I also don’t know how he fixed it, since he also glued the back side—I didn’t stand a chance. He was simply incompetent.

Hi,

if the trash bin is really permanently glued with FKM 600, unfortunately the situation looks quite bleak. That material creates a very strong bond.

Good luck...!

But there must be a solution. I have already worked on the top and the sides using a Japanese saw.

The saw blade is semicircular. Depending on the angle you hold the tool, you can get very precisely into the joints. There are also rectangular-shaped blades available for this.

We managed to remove the trash bin using a hammer and chisel, and it appears to be undamaged. However, we are missing the metal part for the lock. Where can I buy that? Is it possible to install the bin directly into the hole in the tile now, or do I need to install this black box and remove the tile beforehand?
