We had a walk-in, open shower installed. However, water regularly splashes or runs from the "shower area" into the main "bathroom area." The floor is tiled throughout, so it is not clear how far the shower’s waterproofing extends.

Would you recommend adding a door or curtain as a precaution, or is the risk of long-term damage low?

I believe I recall that the floor must be fully waterproofed in the bathtub or shower area.
Did the bathroom exist before and only the shower was renovated, or is everything new?

This is an 8-year-old house. The shower was installed during construction.

Under normal circumstances (whether old or new), you don’t need additional waterproofing. Even eight years ago, waterproofing should have been applied.

If there were a defect (at least one that would be noticeable), you would have noticed it by now.

Not if it was previously a shower tray with a door.

I don’t really understand the trend toward open showers. Everything gets dirty, and it doesn’t get cozy until the whole room feels like a steam sauna.

The original poster refers to an 8-year-old shower. Specifically, the shower was installed during construction (in response to the question whether it was a renovation and the shower was new). I can’t add much more than this clear statement.

That’s a matter of proper design. My open shower only lets a few drops escape—more splashing happens around the washbasin.
