Exterior wall of a building with downpipe and two red wall holes.

We had the electrician install power for outdoor cameras. The flush-mounted boxes now stick out several centimeters (inches) beyond the plaster. Is this normal? How should an outdoor camera or a cover be mounted on this without it looking really awkward? What do you think?

What does the electrician say about it?

You took a photo of the current work progress. When it is finished, it will look different.

What do you install if you want to run network cables there? Are surface-mounted or flush-mounted boxes typically used in that case?

The answers are probably as diverse as the scenarios. We can see a plastered facade, but we don’t know if it’s an external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS). The network could be Power over Ethernet (PoE) or have a separate power supply. We don’t know the weight and wind load of the cameras either – this affects whether the boxes are just cable junction boxes or if they should also serve as mounting brackets.
