Hello everyone,

we have finally purchased a rural plot in North Rhine-Westphalia. A small river runs behind our property. We would like to discharge the wastewater directly from the house into the river to save on sewage costs. The plot is quite large, about 3,700sqm (40,000 sq ft), so the distance between the house and the river is correspondingly long.
How steep does the slope need to be for the water to flow properly while also carrying enough solid material (e.g., sewage, etc.) along with it?

Best regards

Where would that be permitted?

As previous posters have already mentioned, wastewater must not be discharged directly into the river. If I remember correctly, even rainwater cannot be directed into the river without approval from the environmental agency.

Just a general question: Have you given up on your building plans in Bavaria?

Yes, we gave up. They wanted an open space development plan with requirements that were not included in the land use plan. Fortunately, we were able to claim this as a defect and return the plot.
