Hello everyone,

Longtime forum members might know me by the name of a neighboring county to Wiltshire. I was inactive for a few years. Since the summer of 2019, we have been living in our wooden house, which was discussed here and for which I received valuable advice. We are still very happy with the decision to build it and feel completely comfortable in our "open-plan wooden house." There were hardly any issues at handover; the few minor things that came up were fixed quickly and reliably. The only remaining problems are a non-functioning exterior power outlet in a spot that, as it turns out, we don’t actually need, and a somewhat inconsistent wireless control of the outdoor lighting—sometimes it switches 2 lamps, sometimes 4.

The house was mainly built by SK Holzbau (Schwirten & Klein) in Gummersbach. They also managed the construction and coordinated the trades in close cooperation with us.

Perhaps some of you were curious about how things progressed after I left the forum rather abruptly. I have already recognized a few familiar usernames again and am glad about that.

Best regards,
Max

Nice to see you here again, Hampshire...

And even better that your home is comfortable to live in and that you are satisfied!

Welcome back!
It’s great to hear from you while I’m still here!

Well, I’d rather call it “open-plan, but with a guest house like Robin Masters’”: https://www.hausbau-forum.de/threads/idee-fuer-steile-zufahrt-gesucht.29704/post-654230 – unfortunately, the list is incomplete, and I can’t find the main thread anymore, even with creative search terms like “forest owner.”

I’ve looked everywhere, but haven’t found you anywhere else. I was about to send Jörg Wontorra or Julia Leischik after you – please get in touch.

Our older son moved in with his girlfriend this summer, so we actually have an apartment free now, which, as planned, has proven to be my office and a guest flat. The younger son will probably stay for a while longer.

Also, the delivery drivers tore up our gravel driveway with spinning tires. After the repair, I will only order deliveries if they are made by DHL.

Is my memory wrong, or did you have an inclined lift for such loads?

Not implemented. We designed the driveway a bit differently, so we can cover an elevation change of 10.5 meters (34 feet) by driving and are almost at ground floor level. Trucks can’t manage it, but an old tractor can help out if needed. (Different kind of equipment)
