ᐅ Is window planning strictly required to follow DIN 5034-2021-08?

Our architect says that the window size must be planned according to DIN 5034-2021-08 (new single-family house). This is estimated to cost about 3000 EUR, as complex calculations and outsourcing are necessary. How binding is this DIN standard? Would the building permit / planning permission likely still be approved if the brightness (etc.) required by the standard is not fully met everywhere?

I only know such considerations from commercial buildings (mainly office buildings), where lighting is a workplace safety issue and therefore mandatory.

Maybe it’s a large architectural firm that doesn’t scale down its processes for the few single-family home clients who come to them and always has to hire a junior engineer according to their standard procedure, like the Asterix Passierschein A38 rule.

No, very small. I’m curious whether other builders have been forced to do this.

As far as I know, no—I haven’t heard of a single case. If I were you, I would instruct the architect to wait and see if they actually insist on this additional special calculation, and beforehand, exceptionally ask the building authority (verbally!) if they even require something like this. Does the architect also need a certification before forwarding the three thousand to the specialist engineer to prove it’s not undeclared money?

Can you still take the legs and the hand, or have you already contractually married the architect...?

As a rule, I can say "no, no building authority requests that." It is also not listed as an attachment in any building permit / planning permission application form.

We have signed the contract for all service phases, but the client is allowed to terminate at any time. However, unless there is an important reason, the architect realistically keeps a large portion of their total fee in addition to the services already rendered, if I understand the legal situation correctly. Does anyone have practical experience with such terminations?
