Hello everyone,
we have finally finished planning our kitchen.

Now I am thinking about the layout of the front side of the island:

Currently planned as 80-80-80, with the cooktop and downdraft extractor flush-mounted.
Each cabinet has 3 drawers: two shallow ones and one deep one at the bottom. Below the cooktop is a panel.

My concerns: Where should the oil and vinegar go? In an upper cabinet above the sink?
Placement of pots, pans, and lids?
Right now, all pots are crammed into a 60cm (24 inches) drawer, all pans are stored in the oven (which is annoying), and all lids are in another 60cm (24 inches) drawer next to the potatoes and onions.

ALTERNATIVE island layout:
100-100-40
Two 100cm (40 inches) cabinets, each with two shallow drawers on top and one deep drawer below.
A 40cm (16 inches) pull-out pantry cabinet for oil and vinegar.
This would mean less space for the cutlery drawer, but I would have room for oil and vinegar bottles directly in the island.
Dishes will also be stored in the island.

It is a Netxt125 kitchen, if that is relevant.
I am attaching the planning photos and would really appreciate your opinions.
Modern kitchen view with island, wall cabinets, wood fronts, oven and cooktop.

Modern kitchen run with built-in oven, black fridge and open wooden shelves.

Modern kitchen with white base cabinets, wood slat wall cabinets, marble backsplash and sink.

Modern fitted kitchen with many cabinets and open shelves, window on the right side.

That’s great. And it looks really good – I like it!

Before we consider your questions now, you could close your thread here and show what has come of the tips we gave.

We did something similar,
80cm (31.5 inches) drawers,
but with two deep ones and a shallow one above.
An example of our pot drawer—
make sure to install high side and back panels, otherwise items will get lost.

Do you have a final plan for the house yet?

I find a full-height window in the roof space quite extravagant.

The only thing that reminds me of an American kitchen is the refrigerator.

An 80cm (31.5 inch) upper drawer is better for spices and other items, rather than two 40cm (15.7 inch) drawers stacked on top of each other.

I would definitely avoid installing the cooktop in the center and place it closer to the edge instead. This way, you get a proper work surface. Right now, you only have small, scattered areas, but not a continuous one.

Keep the vinegar and oil either nicely beside the cooktop or in a tall drawer. The kitchen is quite design-oriented. It would be practical to have a tall drawer near the cooktop below the countertop. You have everything arranged in a classic layout: bottom drawers deep, then middle, and small drawers on top.

The 100cm (40 inch) drawers do hold a lot of stuff, but a second person cooking needs to step quite far aside when you want to open the drawer. You should consider how practical that is.

I wouldn’t plan the 4 stools in a single row like that: how often do you actually sit side by side in a row of four? It doesn’t make communication much fun.

Honestly, I think you could get more out of the kitchen (better organized work surface, chairs not lined up in a row, dishwasher built in at a higher level). The layout (for example, fridge or wall cabinets) is always a matter of personal taste.

I keep all my pans and pots in a mid-height 80cm (31.5 inch) drawer. It’s tight and you have to stack the pots in a certain order; otherwise the drawer won’t close. A second drawer would be great.

Thanks for the picture!
Yes, two deep drawers and one shallow drawer would mean more space. To be honest, I hadn’t really paid attention to how deep the bottom drawer is or why I have two shallow ones on top. I need to visit again and check how deep the bottom one is and whether an oil bottle fits in there.

Attach a back panel to the drawer?
