Hello everyone,
Our future house has a cold roof. Since only certain items should be stored there, we want to get special storage boxes that provide protection against external temperature fluctuations as well as moisture. Regular plastic boxes that we already have are not very suitable for this purpose. Can you recommend any specific boxes that you use yourselves?

WilderSueden12 Jan 2022 20:35How exactly is your roof constructed? Do you have an insulation layer on top of the rafters? My general contractor installs a 35mm (1.4 inches) wood fiber insulation layer there. It probably doesn't add much, but maybe it helps smooth out temperature peaks? And how do you ventilate the attic?

And how do you ventilate the attic? For us, only the ceiling of the top floor is insulated. There is no insulation between the rafters. We don’t ventilate at all. The roof is windproof but not airtight.

Bauenaberwie29 Sep 2022 10:49To revive the thread, we will now do exactly as Steffi33 did. I will probably be able to report in two years whether we had to throw everything away or if it works just as well as it did for Steffi. If it’s the first case, at least it was a good opportunity to declutter.

Bauenaberwie29 Sep 2022 11:40Additionally: We were able to store everything in our garage for several years without any problems, and nothing happened to the items. Suddenly, water penetrated the garage from somewhere, causing mold to develop everywhere. Furthermore, everything started to rot within a short time. It seems that even a small amount of water entering such “cold” storage spaces is enough to disrupt the entire internal climate.

Alessandro29 Sep 2022 14:14Hello,
I am also considering converting my cold roof into a warm roof.
Is it really that simple? Just add insulation between the rafters (compressible insulation), a vapor barrier on top, and that’s it?
Or what else needs to be changed?

We have had a cold roof since this year, and the first winter is coming up.
At the moment, our clothes are stored in IKEA storage boxes.
It would be a shame if the clothes didn’t survive the winter.
