Hello everyone,

We want to build a bungalow in Dessau-Kochstedt. It will be our retirement home.
We would prefer to build with solid construction.
Can you recommend any companies?
Has anyone had experience with this?

Best regards

I strongly recommend that you first read extensively here. Since you specify a particular district, I assume you already have a specific plot of land. If so, please provide more details about the lot. How flat is it (measured, not estimated or guessed)?
There is a section here for building company reviews, but I don’t specifically recall any threads concerning Dessau—neither great, good, average, nor bad experiences.
Professionally, I help find building companies and I usually start by using a preliminary design to set a direction, meaning I typically contact three timber builders and three masonry builders to get a cross-section view and determine which construction method is more suitable in the specific case. In general, neither method is inherently better or worse—what are your reasons for choosing solid masonry construction?
I have just reached out to a recommended provider (although from the Wartburg district) to check if they serve this area.

Your “challenge” when building a bungalow is the floor-area ratio (FAR) or site occupancy factor; typically, more than one full story is rarely required. There are several bungalows here as retirement homes, including those by @Nida35a and @Nordlys.

I would suggest contacting the company MHEL in Mücheln. They are a solid, medium-sized builder specializing in solid construction.

I have visited construction sites and houses they built nearby. Everything was excellent. I would definitely consider having them build for me as well. You can immediately tell by looking at the condition of their construction sites.

As long as they are not too far away.

My impression is not "top" (= excellent), but more like "good." I will keep the company on my watch list; they might be a candidate for my tenders. The unrealistic dimensions in the show home bother me. The website is mediocre, which is not proof but a strong indicator of a recommendable company.

Postal code 062 is a reasonable distance from postal code 068. Take a look at their reference projects yourself.

Take some time to consider how many rooms you need and their purposes, and think back to which houses or holiday homes you felt most comfortable in.
We were surprised ourselves that we only needed three rooms, but with a large open-plan living area and a sauna. If you’re in Berlin, you’re welcome to come and see it.
@motorradsilke has built a similar concept but implemented it in a completely different way.

I only know the company offline, and they have a good reputation for building in our region. I often hang around construction sites and talk to the workers on site, purely out of personal interest. That makes more sense to me than judging based on a website.

When I see that the construction workers are local skilled professionals who are well paid and that the work is solidly done, then you can somehow make an assessment.

Of course, I can't vouch for anyone today with absolute certainty.
