Hello,

we have purchased a newly built townhouse, unfortunately quite late in the process, so we couldn’t customize much. Now the handover is coming up, and we are planning the kitchen. We would like to relocate the water connections to a different spot. Surface-mounted piping is certainly possible, but breaking through the floor would be much more practical.

Does it even make sense to think about this? I keep reading about thermal imaging cameras, but on the other hand, many strongly advise against them.

Best regards, mman182

Yes. However, it is significantly more complex. Any plumber can advise you or locate the loops of the underfloor heating system (the loops must keep a minimum distance of 50mm (2 inches) from walls, according to DIN standards – this is enough space for water pipes).

Would a plumber also be the right professional for this work? I'm just wondering who I should contact for this.

I would consult one. Basically, it’s doable.

But I also like the surface-mounted option (unless it would be visible somewhere). I’m generally a fan of countertops that are more than the usual 60cm (24 inches) deep, so there’s enough space behind the cabinets (and of course on the countertop for kitchen work or integrated power outlets).
