ᐅ New Kitchen: Installing Exposed Water Pipes

Hello everyone!

To realize the ideal layout of our new kitchen, we need to relocate the water supply and drainage pipes by about 2m (6.5 feet). The appointment with the plumber is already scheduled, but I would like to review everything in advance to avoid any misunderstandings later on.

Key details:
- The pipes need to be surface-mounted and rerouted about 2m (6.5 feet) around the corner to the left (see the “Floor Plan” image)
- The distance to the wall (outer measurement, including the piping) must not exceed 8cm (3 inches), as the kitchen depth can only exceed by a maximum of 9cm (3.5 inches)
- The electrical outlet located to the left of the current water connection should remain accessible (as it is separately fused and intended for the dishwasher)

In my vision, it might look similar to the “Water Pipes Sketch” image.
The angle valves would be removed and repositioned. The hot water supply line (H) and the drain pipe (D) would need to be shortened toward the floor drain. At the bottom, the hot water line would run (yellow), above it the cold water line (blue), and the drain pipe (green) in the middle with a slope.

Here are a few questions I have:
- Do you think this plan is feasible, or is there anything that would speak against it?
- The new cold water line would run above the electrical outlet. I assume that should be okay?
- The new position of the angle valves would be about 25cm (10 inches) to the right of the stove’s high-voltage connection. Would that be a problem?

Thank you in advance for your feedback!

Best regards

What is the main reason you want to install water? How long is the island, and where will you be working? Where will you place appliances?

Will the kitchen have handleless cabinets? I ask because the panel to the left of the refrigerator is supposed to be only 16mm (0.6 inches) thick.

My suggestion... place the two tall cabinets next to each other, so the refrigerator first, then the special cabinet with the dishwasher below and the oven above. Then, towards the window, the base cabinets with wall cabinets above.

That was my initial idea as well. But then pictures showed the water meter, power outlets, and so on.

Since the row is going to be moved forward anyway, and as far as I understand, the meters and so on will be relocated into the sink cabinet, moving the tall cabinet should not be a problem.

Thank you for your feedback!

The main reason is that we want a kitchen layout with a run of cabinets along the left wall and a peninsula in front (as shown in the pictures).
This cannot be done with the water connection in its original location.

Will the kitchen have handleless cabinets? I'm asking because the panel to the left of the fridge is supposed to be only 16mm (0.6 inches) thick/allowed.

The island is just under 2m (6.5 ft) long and has a depth of 1.5 cabinet units (95cm (37 inches)). When standing in front of the cooktop, there is a standard cabinet depth on one side, and on the other side facing the living room, there are three half-depth cabinets with a depth of 35cm (14 inches).
“Fixed” appliances include only a small coffee machine and a water carbonator, which will be placed to the left of the sink.
The kitchen will be handleless except for the fridge and dishwasher, as we did not like the look of the vertical recessed handles.

With a maximum width of 290cm (9.5 ft), having the two towers on the right and left with a relatively narrow gap in between looks a bit odd.

Thank you for your input as well! But we prefer the symmetrical version with a tower on the left and right.
As hanghaus2023 also pointed out, this is not possible due to the water meter.
Water supply and drainage will be relocated, but the water meter will remain in its original place.

I’m truly overwhelmed by the number of your responses, thank you!
However, the kitchen layout is set for us. We have planned the kitchen extensively over a period of two months and consulted several kitchen studios. For us, this is the optimal kitchen given the circumstances.

The only question now is how the water pipe relocation should be done and whether anything needs to be considered regarding the cooktop connection box and the outlet to the left of the current water connection.

Since you provide very little information, it’s hard to say much. You probably still need to install a line for the stove. The cooktops are going on the island, right?

If you had shown your kitchen layout from the start, I could have given you feedback much sooner. Always this piecemeal approach!!!!

I can’t understand your frustration. I have shared dimensioned plans of the walls, a detailed description of what we intend to do, and I also provided sketches of the kitchen again. What exactly do you feel is still missing?

But just for fun, I tried to recreate the kitchen as accurately as possible using the Nolte configurator.
What I wasn’t able to configure (so please keep this in mind):

- On the back kitchen run, there will be another 30cm (12 inches) high cabinets to close the gap up to the ceiling
- The side gaps between the tall cabinets and the walls will each be covered with a trim panel
- The gaps between the peninsula and the wall will also be covered with trim panels

Here’s also a close-up to show what the trim panel at the end will look like:

Because my focus is on the technical implementation of the water installation, and I wanted to avoid this turning into a fundamental discussion about the kitchen layout.

Which unfortunately is what the last posts ended up being about.
