Hello,
my brother and I are building a semi-detached house together and plan to do most of the work ourselves. Since we both still have our day jobs, we would like to have someone who can occasionally help us out. Of course, friends and family are available too, but that won’t be enough. We thought about hiring someone as a part-time helper with a mini-job. However, I read in another thread that this might not be possible in this setup, since construction assistance is not considered a household service, and you can only hire a craftsman or construction helper as a mini-job through a registered business. Does anyone have experience with this or suggestions on how to officially employ a helper without having to start a company? We are building for our own use without any profit intention.

because construction helper activities are not considered household services and you can only hire a craftsman/construction helper as a mini-jobber through a business This is completely taken out of context and mixed up.
Just because it is not classified as a household service and you cannot deduct it, you can still hire someone for these tasks.
By the way, a cleaning lady is also often hired as a mini-jobber and is engaged privately.
Household services are services ordered within an already existing household.
What is important is that they are covered by accident insurance. This also applies to your friends, acquaintances, and so on. Construction helpers, whether outsiders or not, should be registered with the employers’ liability insurance association (if I understand correctly). I am not entirely sure about the details.
Thank you for the quick response,
there is a list of activities at the Minijob Center that qualify as household-related services. Only for these activities is it allowed to employ a minijobber in a private household (e.g., cleaning, caregiving, babysitting, etc.). Skilled trades or construction work are not included. Since we are building only for ourselves, we are effectively a private household. However, tradespeople working as minijobbers are employed by trade companies. This means we would need to register a business. In turn, this implies a profit intention, which we do not have. So basically, I am looking for a way to legally and officially hire someone as a construction helper for a few hours or days, without a lot of bureaucratic complexity. The goal is just to have occasional assistance, but more than that provided by private helpers like friends or acquaintances who are not paid.
Regarding accident insurance, I must, of course, register everyone with the BG Bau (professional trade association for construction). We have already done this.

Once again: You are misunderstanding and misinformed if you refer to household-related services. That is a completely different category from what you are planning.
And no: this is not a household yet, it is a construction site, a house build. The fact that you are currently living somewhere has nothing to do with it, because you are not seeking help for your current household.

And no: it is not yet a household, it is a construction site, a house under construction. The fact that you live somewhere else right now does not change this, because you are not seeking help for your current household. However, a typical part-time job for commercial activities outside of household-related services is only possible for a commercial employer. As a private individual, you are not allowed – as a typical part-time job – to hire craftsmen. Only a commercial employer is permitted to do so.
