HankMoody9116 Jun 2024 13:10We purchased a newly built apartment that was still under construction, but the building was already well advanced at the time of purchase. The bathroom originally included a sink with a floor-standing vanity unit planned by the developer.
As a layperson, I am now wondering if, instead of this, a furniture-style washbasin with a “floating” vanity cabinet (60cm (24 inches)) could be mounted on the wall or the recess shown in the photo, where the sink would be installed?
A Geberit mounting frame was installed in the recess, intended for the original sink. Can this also support the furniture washbasin and vanity cabinet, or would the wall recess have needed to be prepared differently from the start? In the extra cost quotation, the plumbing company only stated that “no additional measures for mounting were taken, as the choice of vanity cabinet was made after the rough installation. Therefore, the cabinet mounting will be done on drywall.” I’m now questioning whether this is even possible and if it would be safe and stable?

Basically, that's not a problem.Thanks. But just to be sure, I’m asking again: is this also possible without having to remove the wall projection? ;-)

hanghaus202316 Jun 2024 13:48This can definitely be done. You can either use the existing fasteners or use anchors for drywall. Or both. I also glued it on additionally.

elminster18 Jun 2024 20:33We used toggle anchors for this in our project. It holds securely.
