Hello

we are currently planning our new semi-detached house

we have now reached the topic of video doorbells and security cameras

I have a few questions

Video doorbell:

which "smart" video doorbell can you recommend without monthly fees?

The video doorbell should have the following features:

When someone rings, there should be an audible signal inside the house (like a normal doorbell) and a notification should be sent to our smartphones

The video doorbell should also be seamlessly compatible with a smart door lock (e.g. Nuki) and it should work seamlessly together with the security cameras (all in one app)

At what height from the ground should the video doorbell be installed?

Which "smart" security cameras can you recommend? Should we choose the same manufacturer as the video doorbell?

Where should security cameras be installed?

Definitely one on the garage to cover the area next to the house.

Then only the entrance area would be left—do we still need an additional security camera at the entrance if we already have a video doorbell?

I have already looked and the big well-known brands like Ring (Amazon) and Nest (Google) all rely on cloud solutions with monthly subscriptions if you want all features

I have also seen Eufy (Anker) which works without cloud and monthly fees

What do you think of these brands or which ones would you recommend we check out?

Yes, you could remove it and connect directly to the LAN port again (for example, when we are on vacation).

If the network equipment supports it, you could restrict access with authentication (keyword 802.1x). Nowadays, almost all cameras have this feature, unless they are very low-end models from discount stores.

What is the range of the cameras to the home base?

If you don’t have a direct line of sight without any interference or obstacles, a reliable statement is hard to make. It depends on your walls, the placement of access points, your neighbors, and other factors.

Is the connection always stable?

No one can guarantee that.

How long does the internal 16GB storage last?

One hour of 1080p video with H.264 at 25 frames per second uses about 2 GB.

Hello everyone,
we are planning a city villa and are now working on the electrical layout. I would like to install a camera on each side or corner of the house. I am considering the ABUS 360° pan-and-tilt Wi-Fi camera. Does anyone have experience with this or with ABUS in general?

Our construction company said they would install it in the roof overhang, which shouldn’t be a problem. I’m wondering how the image quality would be if the camera is mounted at a height of 6 meters (20 feet). Has anyone had experience with this?

Additionally, we are planning a video doorbell: our electrician recommended Doorbird. Is it a good choice, or are there alternatives?

I would run a CAT cable to all permanently installed cameras. Since you need power at those locations anyway, you can supply them via PoE and also achieve higher bandwidth than with Wi-Fi.

When positioning cameras, keep in mind that you are only allowed to monitor your own property. Neighbors' properties or public areas are off-limits. If a motorized camera can pan to those areas, then you could have a problem.

How and where should the video data be stored? NAS?

Who exactly do you have an issue with?
Unfortunately, this is quite common in our new residential area. I deliberately positioned two cameras at the corners of my house so they do not cover neighbors’ properties or public spaces. However, some neighbors don’t care at all. Their cameras are fully directed at the public access road and so on.
