ᐅ What IP rating should an outdoor garden socket have?

Hello,

we want to install 2 outdoor power outlet columns in the garden, each with 3-4 sockets.

The outlet columns will be installed outdoors without any cover and will be exposed to rain, snow, frost, wind, and sunlight.

What minimum IP rating should the outlet columns have, or what would you recommend?

I would recommend at least IP54.

Or an IP68 underwater outdoor socket.

IP44 is common and should be sufficient.

IP54 only offers additional protection against dust compared to IP44 (which only provides protection against particles larger than 1mm (0.04 inches)). I consider that unnecessary for garden use.

For a difference of one euro, I would always choose the higher protection rating. With pollen and Saharan dust, these enclosures can get dirty quite quickly.

That’s quite a bit more since we want to buy ready-made power pedestal columns.

What about IP55? There are only a few power pedestal columns with IP55.
