ᐅ Is decentralized mechanical ventilation really that expensive?

Hello everyone,

I have received a quote for the installation of Inventer fans throughout the entire house. The house is a semi-detached property with approximately 130 sqm (1,400 sq ft) of living space.

The total cost is around €10,500, which I find quite high. The semi-detached house consists of a basement (no fans planned here), ground floor, first floor, and attic.

Ground floor: 2x iV14v, 1x iV Twin, and 1x exhaust fan in the bathroom/shower, with separate control for the ground floor
First floor: 3x iV14v and 1 exhaust fan in the bathroom
Attic: 2x iV14v

I believe the first floor and attic share one control system, but I would need to double-check.

Is this price reasonable or too high? At this price, would it also be possible to install a central mechanical ventilation with heat recovery system?

I would appreciate your help – I really need support here. Thank you.

Best regards,
Robert

According to
e) Through the cross-ventilation principle, fresh air is supplied to the bathroom 50% of the time and exhausted through the bedroom... Now everyone can imagine what might be carried along. Not pleasant.

this occurs when only a single decentralized unit with heat recovery is used in the bathroom and it interacts with a unit in another room.

Then the planner should reconsider their approach, or there is simply no proper ventilation concept in place. In all the years we have sold decentralized systems, I have never encountered a single case where a room smelled bad.

Then you probably didn’t plan the semi-detached house where SirSydom lives ^^

I’ll respond to the “keep quiet if you don’t know anything” comment, @Perlenmann
I shared MY OWN experience. Do you have a decentralized controlled residential ventilation system like mine? Reading comprehension level 6, fail.

How do you think the air flows when the fan in the bathroom is blowing in, and the one in the bedroom is exhausting?
And since that’s how it works in MY system (a common model) and, in my opinion, in all (fully) decentralized ventilation systems with heat recovery (otherwise, how would the heat recovery function?), it’s reasonable to point that out.

It might well be a design flaw. The planner and the property owner don’t have to live there, but the tenant does. And the tenant usually doesn’t realize this in advance and ends up being sold such a system as a comfort feature.

I always find people like you highly enlightening...

Perlenmann has built – I know his history a bit; by the way, you could too, at least partially, if you read a little here – and compared a lot. You are a TENANT and apparently having issues with a decentralized system installed in your rental unit. That’s a big difference, aside from the fact that none of us know which system this is.

Since when do tenants have to pay for these kinds of investments out of their own pocket? Rent reduction for a duration of "x"? And if you were already willing to invest money in it, I wonder why you didn’t get informed earlier? Now you can, at least...

@sir: Accusing someone of "having no idea" or telling them to "shut up"... I’d say that’s a failing grade.

I admit I questioned your current situation. It might indeed be like that for you. I also have to confess that since I have never dealt with decentralized controlled residential ventilation systems (in part because of the points you mentioned), I assumed they work similarly to centralized systems. However, from what I have read elsewhere, the bathroom and kitchen should be exhaust-only! So it’s probably a design mistake in your case.
