Hello everyone,
finally, there is a forum focused solely on building, so I thought I’d sign up right away! I want to buy new armchairs, and now I’m wondering whether to choose microfiber or leather. The price difference is minimal, but which is better when it comes to maintenance and which lasts longer?

Hello Lolo,
I can only say that a leather armchair looks much nicer than one made of microfiber. With the right care, it lasts forever—my grandmother has an armchair from the 1970s, and it’s still beautiful because she rubs it with a care product every week.
Best regards

I wouldn’t buy a leather armchair because you can see every stain, and it’s impossible to remove them. It’s better to choose microfiber ones that you can wipe clean with a damp cloth, and that’s usually enough. Also, leather tends to become brittle over time if it’s not regularly treated with a conditioning product.

Hello,
if you take care of your furniture, it will still look good even after years, and this applies to every material. Leather is indeed very nice, but I find it uncomfortable in summer when you sit on it with bare legs and then stick to it.

For leather, I can only recommend suede; it’s not as cold and feels kind of cozy. But choose an armchair with a removable seat cushion if possible, so you can lift it off, clean underneath, and don’t have to struggle with annoying gaps.

Hello,
my neighbors have a leather sofa set, but their cats have already left permanent claw marks on it. It looks really bad, and even the best care can’t restore it.
