Hello,
We live in a mid-terrace house with a typical layout on the ground floor (kitchen, living-dining room, guest toilet).
Has anyone remodeled or extended their terraced house to make it possible to use only the ground floor when getting older? Who has tips or experiences with this?

Has anyone remodeled or extended their terraced house so that only the ground floor can be used in old age? Any tips or experiences? My advice in this case would be to consider moving instead. For a mid-terrace house, any extension—if permitted at all—is usually limited to the area alongside the neighboring terraces (which often means you can’t connect your own terrace again, as it would extend beyond the building boundary). Without an extension, however, the ground floors of terraced houses are essentially like apartments.

Is anyone planning a renovation or an extension? What exactly do you want to add? It has to be approved and permitted as living space. This is usually only allowed in very old terraced houses, such as the Marienkäfer estate, which is a listed building in Munich.
But don’t be discouraged: in most standard terraced houses, you can install a stairlift to reduce the barrier to the bedroom and bathroom.
