Hello,

we are looking for an outdoor security camera system:
- with very good color image quality and sound
- WITHOUT a subscription (local storage such as hard drive or similar)
- with app access from a smartphone
- and the ability to mask the neighbor’s property on individual cameras.

Power cables are available for the cameras.

Which security camera system would you recommend?

Thank you very much for your help!

Best regards
Franzi

Is there LAN available, or does it have to run over Wi-Fi?

It has to run over Wi-Fi. Unfortunately, only power cables are available, no LAN cables.

We have also been using two Reolink cameras (front door and garden) for 3 years and are very satisfied with them.

Where are the recordings stored?
And how can you mask out an area?

Ubiquity Unifi.

Please also mention that it’s not enough to have just the cameras; the Unifi Protect infrastructure is also required.

Recordings are stored on a suitable recorder (NVR). Either from the camera manufacturer if the system can or should remain standalone, or (better) on a NAS. Synology devices running Surveillance Station software work very well for this, and zone masking is handled there. Recording directly onto any memory cards inside the cameras is a very poor solution.

Wi-Fi is not ideal, but if the planning wasn’t done properly, it has to do for now. At least do you have an in-wall outlet there, or are the cables just hanging out?

Have you checked whether you get solid Wi-Fi performance outside at those locations at all?

What do we need from Reolink if we only have Wi-Fi?
Which cameras?
What kind of hard drive storage?
Do we need any additional components then?

Reolink offers many cameras; just check their website to see what you need. As far as I have seen, their NVRs can also support WiFi, but there are definitely compatibility charts available. Have you only recently started looking into cameras, or is there another reason why PoE was not chosen?

You should definitely test the WiFi reception at the desired locations to ensure it is sufficient.

Our electrician told us that Wi-Fi would be sufficient.
Unfortunately, we cannot test anything at the moment. The electrical distribution board is not yet operational.
