Why is the design the way it is now?

We wanted a closed kitchen and a staircase that does not lead directly upstairs from the front door.
Additionally, a small office should fit on the ground floor.
Based on the building window requirements, we aimed for a larger main garden at the front and a small cozy retreat area behind the house, both accessible from the living/dining room.
Furthermore, a second entrance through the utility room was planned as a mudroom.
The plot to the west belongs to my parents, so the driveway is also planned in that direction.

What is the most important/basic question about the floor plan summarized in 130 characters?

Please provide feedback on our design.

Why choose a draftsman’s design instead of an architect’s?

The first thing that stands out to me is the unrealistic dimensions* (including the exterior wall thickness), and that I would have the bedroom window open the other way. All windows are casement without tilt function—will there be a controlled mechanical ventilation system?

I would plan the bathroom more concretely (with furniture layout). What do the roughly square boxes in the floor plan represent, located around the staircase and "opposite" it? The passage beside the stairs looks very tight.

Otherwise, it appears to be a house designed for people with a different taste than mine, but nothing is obviously wrong (though some details may be missing from the drawings). For a draftsman, the dimensioning here is quite untidy—have they completed their training?

[I*] First teaching of 11ant: Unrealistic dimensions are the seeds of botched workmanship![/I]

Because a draftsman is sufficient to carry out a DIY planning project. :p

If a final draft alone would already count as an implementation ...

Thanks in advance for the feedback,

This is just a rough draft for now.
We plan to take this draft to the local timber construction companies to get some quotes.
The exterior walls have not been precisely drawn yet. Since it will be a timber frame construction with a brick veneer, the wall thickness will be around 450mm (18 inches).
A mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery is planned, and the windows will be tilt-and-turn.
I am still figuring out how the bathroom layout will work with the sloped ceiling and the washbasin.
The boxes shown don’t mean anything; according to colleagues, the software had some glitches when creating the PDF.

My main concern here was whether there are any major mistakes in the plan.
Once we have everything fully planned in detail, I will be happy to share the more detailed version here again.

My topic is, repeatedly, windows. In my opinion, the house has too few and too small windows. I like it, and I find it extremely pleasant when a room receives natural light from at least two sides.

Of course, I understand the argument that you also need solid walls, but I would always approach it the other way around: How many cabinets (which often just lead to collecting clutter ;-) ), shelves, TVs, and pictures do I really need, and do I prefer them over the view of the garden, my surroundings, etc.?
