I planned this for several years and worked on it for well over a year.
Wood and metal sheets were considered for the porch roof. In the end, it became a steel frame, over which a truck tarp is tensioned to create a ridge.
The last photo shows an initial cardboard prototype.

By now, it’s finished, and everything works as it should. It has already withstood storms and large hailstones (the car did get hail damage), and the water drains off to the right and left so that you can stay dry when passing through in the rain.

The entrance is one of the important, “communicative” parts of a house.
I wanted something that makes you feel welcomed to come inside.
It shouldn’t be too serious and should have some flow.

I think it succeeded 😎

Can’t you just ignore it if you don’t like it yourself, instead of trying to talk it down?
No. Honestly, no. It has to remain acceptable to speak the truth when the emperor has no clothes. Furthermore, the original poster claims this is a contradiction that also occurs in art and nature. Anyone making such claims should be able to provide examples.
In fact, I have a fitting association from nature: outliers in nature are known to arise through mutations, which are mostly nonviable and often terminated already in the womb. Taking that one step further, you quickly think of cancer cells, which are unwanted mutations forming a kind of appendage that you would most definitely want to get rid of. 😀

I do hope the original poster doesn’t take the comments too personally. If they are happy with it and can handle the feedback, it’s none of our business. 🙂

No. Honestly, not really. It should still be allowed to speak the truth.

I find it absurd to talk about the "truth" in terms of optical perception. It seems that everyone perceives something different as the truth 😉

In this context, it should not be overlooked that mutations are a central component of evolution. Without them, we wouldn’t exist in the form we do today. Mutations can certainly bring about beneficial traits that prevail over the non-mutated forms. Without this variability (in this case in genetic material), there would be no further development of organisms 😉

Let the guy have his porch roof. He likes it and wanted to show it off. Can't people just ignore it if they don't like it, instead of trying to discourage him?
Or put differently: "Taste is subjective, as the saying goes."

Strange point of view.
If someone walks by and says, "Wow, what an ugly porch roof," then I agree with you. Keep walking, it’s not your problem, just look away...

But when someone deliberately goes public… and nothing else but “public” means the internet, then you have to be prepared to accept criticism. That’s the purpose of a forum; it’s not just a place for praise.

And questions about snow load and drainage are by no means “discouraging” but are simply matters of building integrity and personal safety. If 200kg (440 lbs) of snow plus the roof ever falls on you or him, you might remember my words.

PS:
This also applies to the idea of moving out to the middle of nowhere, where the price per square meter is 50 EUR (about $53) and then expecting excellent fiber-optic internet promptly, like in central Berlin...

I expect that because that’s how it was sold to us.

When I hear talk about non-viable mutations in connection with my beautiful, new canopy, it doesn’t leave me indifferent, and I find the discussion quite interesting.
I have designed "functional objects" all my life and feel comfortable with that.
Naturally, most of my clients are people who like what I create. Others give me fewer commissions (not to mention that I am now retired).
So, it doesn’t happen very often that someone who doesn’t like what I do writes to me, and I definitely don’t want to just “brush that off.”
However—as mentioned at the very beginning of this topic—humor is part of my work, and while I consider design important and meaningful, I don’t believe it can save the world. Therefore, from my point of view, it’s not a big deal if someone can’t relate to what I produce.

I would like to thank everyone so far for the engaging discussion.
At the moment, I don’t have anything else interesting to add.
Maybe something will come to me later 🙂

I actually expected this argument from the OP. But maybe it was too embarrassing for him to speak of an evolutionary advancement in building technology or design. However, I'm sure he’s glad that you’re willing to take that on... 😀
