Hello,

we are currently deciding on the flooring for our new build and have a question regarding click vinyl flooring in combination with underfloor heating. I would like to hear your opinions and recommendations on this. Is click vinyl flooring suitable for use with underfloor heating? If not, what alternative flooring options would you recommend?

Thank you in advance

The answer to the initial question is quite straightforward:
It can be found by checking the product datasheet, usually indicated by a text note or a corresponding symbol (suitable for underfloor heating) on the packaging of the flooring planks.
If there is no such indication, the planks are not specified by the manufacturer for installation over a warm water underfloor heating system.

Every manufacturer claims that their product is perfect for the job.
As mentioned before... the vinyl flooring is only one part; the underlayment for impact sound insulation is another.

I can buy a really great winter jacket, but if I go outside wearing it with just socks, I will still freeze...

I’ll take the liberty of adding my question here since we are currently facing the same decision. The screed is scheduled to be installed in the next few weeks, and we need to determine the total floor buildup height so everything fits nicely and we can finalize it this week.

My partner is really impressed with Wineo. We have already checked it out in the store once or twice, and I am quite comfortable with it as well. It will probably be the Wineo 600 Rigid. According to Wineo, their vinyl flooring is very suitable for underfloor heating. Of course, you don’t just take everything you’re told at face value. The datasheet says the following:
  • ~ 0.05 (m²K)/W without underlay | ~ 0.06 (m²K)/W with silentRIGID
  • silentRigid is the impact sound insulation, and the thermal resistance is specified as 0.01 (m²K)/W there.

If I’ve understood everything correctly, this fits very well and is probably even more suitable than parquet, etc.

Why choose the click option?
At first, we planned to do the click installation ourselves, but the click material with insulation was €15/m² (about $16.50/ft²) more expensive.
For that price, we simply had planks glued down instead.
It feels good, offers significantly better thermal performance, and involved less work. ;-)

Actually, it’s mainly because we got a better offer where we pay around 15€/m² (about $15/m²) less if I install the floor myself. I’m not confident gluing it down, but clicking it together I can manage easily. We’re happy to save the €1500 by doing this and instead invest in higher quality stair treads.

And I also want to do a little bit of the work myself 🙂
