ᐅ Photovoltaic system with hybrid inverter without internet connection?

Hello everyone,

Our construction is unfortunately delayed...
The photovoltaic panels have been installed on the roof since the end of November (mounted immediately after the roofing). The electricity inside the house has been available for a month, and the meter (bidirectional meter) has been connected for a week.
My photovoltaic offer states that the system can only be connected once the internet is working in the house. However, that could take until autumn...
Before I call the photovoltaic company, I wanted to ask about your experiences to prepare for the conversation.
Do I really need a permanent internet connection?
Would it not be enough if I provide my phone’s hotspot for configuring the inverter? It is a GoodWe hybrid inverter but without a battery for now.
It is quite frustrating to have no functioning photovoltaic system during this weather even though the panels are already on the roof...

In our device, I believe the charging electronics switch off as soon as the battery is fully charged. However, there are others designed for continuous operation. Those also come with proper antennas. There is quite a range of price levels for SIM routers as well 😉

Yes, I have as well.

However, there are also specific 4G dongles for inverters that connect to the mobile network via a SIM card. They are not very expensive. After all, there are photovoltaic systems located far from fiber optic, cable, or telephone lines.

We would need something affordable. I just searched online. Lidl also offers these mobile routers...
One more important thing: How many MB per month does a connection with an inverter typically use? Would a plan with 3GB per month be sufficient?

Without knowing the exact data usage, I would guess that 3GB might even be sufficient. Maybe there’s something affordable somewhere with 500MB or so.

Our inverter from Senec also needed internet access. I borrowed it from our neighbor using a Fritz router. He gave me his login details, and the Wi-Fi reached all the way to our utility room. Later, I gave him a small gift and hosted a cozy neighborhood evening as thanks for sharing his connection for six months. 😉 Maybe this could be an affordable option for you too?

Good idea, but it doesn’t work for us. New housing development, everyone is still building...
