Hello everyone,

Things are moving quickly now and my carpenter finally installed my living room wall unit this week.
Since I will be storing everything that tends to be scattered around the house here (I don’t have any dressers or sideboards),
I need storage boxes for small items (and we all know there are plenty of those).

My cabinet compartments measure 46 x 46 cm (18 x 18 inches), and of course, I want to make the most of the space.
The compartments are also 45 cm (18 inches) high, but since they have adjustable shelves, that is less important (plus I’d prefer to stack two boxes on top of each other).

I have already checked out hardware stores, online shops, and discount stores, and my best find so far is a box with 39 x 39 x 26 cm (15 x 15 x 10 inches) including a lid for 5.49€.
That’s okay, but maybe there’s something better (especially since it’s one of those tapered boxes that narrow towards the bottom).
And this is where I need your help—have you seen anything like this somewhere? I know it’s tough, and the usual suspects (like Ikea) don’t have anything.
Apparently, there are sizes that go up to 40 cm (16 inches) and then only start again above 50 cm (20 inches).

I’d appreciate it if you could help. I need about 10 to 15 pieces.

Best regards,
Flo

How do you come up with what I almost want to call a "prank," ordering a custom-built wall unit for storage boxes without checking beforehand what the standard sizes of such boxes are?

You're right. On the other hand, the width was based on the total width of the cabinet.
And the width of the individual compartments also somehow determines the maximum width of the door, if you know what I mean.
Anyway, it doesn't matter now—I have to look for something.

It might sound a bit ambitious, but would it still be within the budget to have the boxes custom-made to fit perfectly? Compared to the built-in wall unit, that should be a minor expense, right?

I would agree with that. If it’s a custom-made wall unit, do you really want to keep plastic storage boxes (I assume) from discount stores in it permanently? Wood or woven baskets usually look more high-quality and also last longer.

On Etsy, there is "Mijubox," which makes rustic wooden crates similar to fruit or wine boxes. They also offer custom-made options. Standard crates measuring 50cm x 40cm x 30cm (20 inches x 16 inches x 12 inches) cost around 6-9€. They offer discounts for bulk orders as well.
