Hello everyone,
Following advice from our architect, we have started considering our kitchen layout, since we still have the option to move walls, windows, or doors if it helps optimize the kitchen.
Attached is a first draft of the kitchen plan, which I have roughly sketched. You will also find pictures showing the approximate style and cabinet fronts we are aiming for. According to the seller, the price will be around €13,500. Some additional information is included in the image. If you need any more details, please feel free to ask.
What do you think about the Nolte Manhattan kitchen in general? How do you find the overall layout? Does the offer seem reasonable to you? Do you have any suggestions for improvements?
Thank you very much and best regards

I also think the passage widths work fine. 1.10 m (3 ft 7 in) is definitely enough, and while 90 cm (35 in) is tight, it’s only about hip height, so I don’t think it will feel cramped.
If I were you, I’d definitely use the space along the wall up to the fireplace. However, not only with tall cabinets. The challenge with this kind of layout is that while an island is great for working, you still need somewhere to put the coffee machine, food processor, toaster, or whatever else. You usually don’t want to place those on the nice island surface. So I’d lean towards arranging on the right side, from top to bottom, two 60 cm (24 in) tall cabinets, then two base cabinets, then two more 60 cm (24 in) tall cabinets. The 157 cm (5 ft 2 in) total for the base cabinets is a bit awkward—160 cm (5 ft 3 in) would be better. But a 100 cm (39 in) plus a 50 cm (20 in) base cabinet, with wall cabinets above featuring three 50 cm (20 in) doors, would probably look good too.
As for the island, you need to consider what will go there. Assuming an 80 cm (31 in) cooktop and a 60 cm (24 in) sink, plus 30 cm (12 in) clearance on each side and at least 100 cm (39 in) of workspace between them, you’re already looking at about 3 meters (10 ft). Then there’s the question of whether a dishwasher should be placed under the island or built into a tall cabinet opposite the island. That’s more of a detailed decision. I believe laminate countertops are available in lengths like that, but I’m not entirely sure. Stone countertops usually max out at about 3.20 m (10 ft 6 in), so in that case they would need to be joined.

You should only consider those ideas if your budget is flexible. If the current offer is already close to your limit, I wouldn’t think further. Hello,
Yes, that's true; that’s why the offer is still on our minds. You can always do more if you stretch yourself, but with the 13.5k (about our planned budget), we are already near our limit. Do you think the version with a larger island and nothing under the window (similar to how pacmansh describes it) is really significantly more expensive than our first option? I don’t really see much more “kitchen” there.
Regards
And your offer only includes doors on the sink side. I’m talking about storage planning and seriously considering whether you want to save money on drawers now and opt for these cabinets with doors instead. This kitchen will probably be with you for at least the next 20 years.

Bertram10015 May 2023 22:23If the kitchen budget is tight, then go to the Swedish store. Their products are decent too. With some assembly skills, you can even manage to include the "nice-to-haves."
