Allthewayup13 May 2023 14:43Hello everyone,
I’m currently (once again) working on optimizing our KNX system and have come across the Gira One, which is supposedly a fairly new product. Despite researching (including on Gira’s website), I still don’t understand what additional benefits the "One" offers compared to the X1. The X1 serves as the smart home visualization, and when combined with the S1, for example, you can access the system remotely via smartphone from anywhere. I’m unable to see what role the One is supposed to play. Has anyone used this device yet or is currently using it and can share some insights? There’s also no mention anywhere that the One could be a successor to the X1.
Thanks in advance.

Allthewayup13 May 2023 16:16I just read a statement from Gira themselves in the comments under a video, although it was more like promotional content. As I understand it, this device does not necessarily replace the X1 or the S1. Apparently, the product is designed to simplify KNX integration for non-experts using a setup assistant (called GPA or something similar), eliminating the need for complex programming for visualization.
The catch is that the One only works with other Gira products. So, actuators, switches, and the like from other manufacturers are not supported. It also does not integrate voice control or systems like Hue. To me, the One seems to be a “lightweight/quick” solution for those who don’t want to dive deeply into KNX but still want to control as much as possible.
I can’t explain this product any other way.

If you write
it makes me wonder if you even know what an X1 actually does.
The whole thing is something like Free@Home and is aimed at electricians who want to sell KNX systems even though they don’t really know anything about KNX. It’s just another isolated system tied to a specific manufacturer.

Allthewayup14 May 2023 18:02I hope I have understood what the X1 can do, but I am completely open to more detailed explanations if you are familiar with the device.
In that case, the topic of "One" is no longer relevant for us, as we have chosen MDT for actuators and switches. I had secretly hoped that it would be a combination of remote access and server, offering simplified setup and operation as an additional advantage.

Simply another isolated system tied to a specific manufacturer. I don’t get it. I have an X1 and KNX devices from various manufacturers. The X1 has nothing to do with programming in the ETS, other than being another device in there. For me, the X1 serves partly as visualization with app integration and partly for the "graphical" creation of more complex logic through the GPA.
In my opinion, the S1 is unnecessary if you have a router with VPN functionality (e.g., Fritzbox). It has worked perfectly for me for years.
