Hello everyone,
Following advice from our architect, we have started considering our kitchen layout, since we still have the option to move walls, windows, or doors if it helps optimize the kitchen.
Attached is a first draft of the kitchen plan, which I have roughly sketched. You will also find pictures showing the approximate style and cabinet fronts we are aiming for. According to the seller, the price will be around €13,500. Some additional information is included in the image. If you need any more details, please feel free to ask.
What do you think about the Nolte Manhattan kitchen in general? How do you find the overall layout? Does the offer seem reasonable to you? Do you have any suggestions for improvements?
Thank you very much and best regards

From what I see, the sink is now located at the top, with just cabinets and wall cabinets on the right wall, and only at the end of those the stove and refrigerator are planned. The distance between the sink and the stove/refrigerator seems way too far to me. Quickly draining pasta, or washing a cucumber – all that should be much closer together. Maybe place the refrigerator and tall cabinet (meaning a high cabinet, not a wall cabinet) at the top left (assuming your sketch is on graph paper), then the sink, and the stove along the right wall? Where the stove and refrigerator are currently planned, you could even fit two tall cabinets if you need them.
What also bothers me about the current layout is that if someone stands at the stove for a while, it’s hard to comfortably get past to access the kitchen.
I also like the deep island — ideal for baking. Here’s a brief update, as my earlier explanation was a bit confusing. The cooktop is planned for the island. The oven will be next to the refrigerator, with the microwave above it.
Still, I like your approach to think about the workflow. Currently, we cook a lot with a Thermomix and less on the cooktop, which we need to consider. Whether that stays the same, I don’t know.
Initially, we also wanted to place the oven and refrigerator at the top left, but the kitchen planner preferred not to, to maintain a nicer, more open view from the living/dining area towards the wall with the window. Another idea is to keep a side-by-side refrigerator where it is now and move the oven to the top left. What do you think? We really like the wall cabinets, but the view of them is currently partly blocked by the tall cabinets.
The island is also intended for baking :-)

So the corner space is basically wasted and not accessible?Basically correct, but the issue is not the wasted corner itself, rather the space required on both sides of the L-shaped solution. Just watch a video on it, and it becomes clear quickly. Dachshund90 schrieb:
In principle, with the L-shape and the island, we have more storage and also a larger kitchen than with a long wall and a big island, or is that wrong?I haven’t calculated it, but I would guess it’s the other way around. Storage space should be significantly greater because you would have more tall cabinets and the island offers usable cabinets on both sides. The net countertop area might be somewhat smaller, but with an island it’s continuous and well usable. You’d probably need to go into detailed planning for this, others are better at that than I am.Dachshund90 schrieb:
To the right of the sink, the narrow towel holder, Haha, I need the dish towel about 20 times after work… I wouldn’t want to open a door for that, nor give up 20cm (8 inches) of width or add an expensive cabinet. Besides, it wouldn’t be good for the overall look.

Still, I think your approach to considering the workflow is good. Well, the workflow and ergonomics are basically the ABCs of kitchen planning. The workflow determines the layout.
For example, I also wouldn’t place a frequently used refrigerator right in front of the entrance, causing the open door and the person using it to block others. But that’s what you get with this kind of layout.

Hello Yaso,
I don’t know where to get a really detailed quote where you can clearly check what will be installed and what it costs. We are not aware of any.
All we know is that the appliances are Siemens. Induction cooktop with downdraft ventilation; a large fridge with a freezer drawer below it, and an oven with a self-cleaning function. Is that enough for an assessment? The fact that the kitchen showroom doesn’t provide you with pictures or the kitchen design already suggests they are not offering transparency.
I visited several showrooms, and none gave me pictures or the detailed design, but at least they provided a listed quote including all planned items. Later, on the recommendation of our general contractor, I visited a family-run kitchen studio that actually gave us everything upfront. That’s where we bought our kitchen because I could somewhat understand what justified the price of around 21,000 € (about 22,600 USD).
